Hi, am I allowed to bring a few torches with batteries on virgin or qantas domestic?

Regional OZ, cannot always buy a torch at my destination ha ha ha….

If yes, check in or carry on luggage?

      Bright thinking there.

  • As long as the total amount of the batteries is under 27,000maH (from memory), and they’re in the lights in your carry-on, it should be okay. Do a mechanical lockout too if possible. Make sure you mention it at the security screen though.

Yes and always carry on (especially if they run on lithium batteries).

  • Take the batteries out and put them in your carry on as you can't put batteries into checked in luggage.

Then check the torches into your checked in luggage.

You could try taking them onboard as carry on, but if they are big long metal ones, you might run into an 'issue' on the day and have to give them up at the security checkpoint. yeah yeah someone else will say they have taken them through without issues, but if this was me and you wanted 100% way to get them at your destination, then do the above.

I’ve taken torches on planes no problems, but only small ones (FW3A, D4V2, etc). You’re right, wouldn’t want to try to take anything large/heavy through security…

      • Oh for sure, the small ones you can take as carry on, but the big long metal ones that guards use to beat people with as part of self defence, would be a no no and while you might get them on, you might not. Its not worth the risks. Just check the thing in your luggage.

But hey, looking at the 2 negs on my first comment, it would appear some people are happy to take that risk.
