  • kogan giving away free tvs???? what?when? lol i remember the time they gave away free hdmi cables but new tvs?
re tv i was about to post "it's baaaack" but noticed it's the Sonic 32" Mark2, it costs a bit more($329 vs $270) but you get 100hz(vs 50hz) 4 stars energy rating (vs 3) and 3 hdmi (vs 2)

Kogan have a campaign saying they will beat any JB or HN prices or give you a free TV.

  • Boo… they had this for $399 last week when I went to buy a 32". Ended up leaving with a Sony 40" EX520 instead…

    • +12

Sounds like the right decision to me. I'd rather have a Sony 40EX520 than either the Soniq or Kogan models any day of the week.

      • I'm probably going to go blind with the 40" in my bedroom and the price differential is sizeable. Then again I kind of got the ex520 for a steal.

  • Offer Expires Saturday 3rd Sep 2011 unless otherwise specified, that means i have to get down there now??

    • Probably. Chances are they only dropped it so that people could make a claim against Kogan for a free TV. Now that Kogan has lowered their price again, they'll probably put the price back to normal. Wait and see though I guess.

  • lame, they should put it back to $299 or less. I personally wouldnt pay more than that for Soniq brand but at $299 or less its a good buy.

    • this is led the 299price isfor nonled so this is a bargain!

      • no reason why it shouldn't go down. LED and LCD cost the same to manufacture.

        • +1

We are talking in the span of a coupla months. price doesnt drop that quickly. get off your high frugal horse

this is also 100hz and led is lcd + led backighting. not the same thing

  • Edge LED ?????
does that mean its super skinny or just trying to convince anyone that it's the same as a fully fledged LED TV ?

  • +1

Price on website link provided is $399 - where is the $329 deal?

  • -1

All I can see is that a similar config at Kogan is $357.03 (including delivery to Melbourne).

    http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/kogan-full-hd-led-32-hd-led-tv-…

    not a bad price..

    • -1

Not the same the JB one is a LCD and the Kogan is a LED so they will not accept same spec argument.

      • -1

The link posted here says that JB one is Edge LED and the Kogan is the same - not sure where you noticed the JB is a LCD one!

  • I bought one today $359 with 2 years extended warranty

    • I don't want to sound rude, by why do people bother paying for extended warranties? Id assume they'd be the highest margin product that any electronics store sells. Why not put that money towards buying a brand that isn't built to fail?

      • +4

because even good brands fail… I think there's a heaps of people even here who have had Sony, LG etc. etc. fail

extended warranties are good if they are pretty low priced

        • +2

True that, my gf got a Sharp TV a while back, we kinda regret that we didn't get an extended warranty coz the HDMI port die (and it only has one) after the first year…..sux…..

And at the end of day, maybe you don't get any physical repayment with the additional fee for the extended warranty, you get a piece of mind, that worth something…

      • Which brand you can find for $359 that wont fail? LOL, they all will fail on certain time, it cant last forever.
They put on invoice $299 for the TV and $60 for extended warranty, just find out that warranty i can refund it withnin 15 days if i dont like it. Should i refund or not?

      • I for one would go for a extended warranty if you can push it down enough on a crappy cheap brand or a really expensive tv especially if you plan on keeping it for the long term… I'd be pretty annoyed if my 2-4k tv broke after 2-3 years and if my crappy cheapo brand broke after a year just to save a few bucks :P

    • Some credit or debit cards give you 1 year extended warranty for free. I never pay for extended warranty.

  • +1

yeah refund it its not worth it. I have never got warranty on my TV's and never had a problem with them (touchwood!)

that way you get the tv for $299 anyway :)

    • I used to think they were useless but then my Panasonic plasma failed on me after 2 years, and I thought I could trust it to last a number of years.

Think of it as insurance should something go wrong. For a $300 telly I may not worry too much but at $3000 it can have some value.

There is also implied warranty if you are willing to look into that.

I have the 42' version of this TV, its honestly fantastic viewing.

The audio quality is a tad below standard and the PVR is a bit weird (auto-populates the whole drive with blank files then overwrites it later).

    Otherwise, highly recommend!!

  • yeah a mate of mine has the 42" LED and its fantastic, great picture. sound is shocking though - you definately need separate speakers.

  • +1

    Sounds is poor.
100Hz is decent (causes screen tearing in games and certain shows however).
Quality is solid but its no Samsung or Sony but does the trick.
The model before this however was not 1080p like advertised. This model, might not be either so be wary if you are planning on getting one to use as a monitor. It may say 1080p but that isn't always the case. When i got it, it only had 900pixels up with 1600 across.

  • I was just looking at the Kogan 32" LEDs on Friday arvo, trying to convince myself to get one as a cheap 2nd TV. Get to work this morning and see that I missed the deal. Spewing!

I placed an order for the Kogan TV over the weekend, but just received an email from Kogan stating that, "Due to an overwhelming demand for the Kogan 32" Full HD 100Hz LED* TV with PVR & SRS Audio over the past weekend, this product has unfortunately been oversold and is now sold out. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. This model is also now discontinued, so we are unable to complete your initial order even at a later dispatch date."

    Hmmmm.

    • Well… That's shit. Possibly they only have this TV to price match and limited stock - win/win for them.

    • I got the same email!!

      Kogan - never again!!

    • +1

Yes, I know I'm being very very sceptical, but it all seems very suspicious.

Kogan just suddenly no longer manufactures a model of TV that, by their price-matching policy, they've had to drop the price on indefinitely by nearly 40% from $529 to $328. Granted, that could be a coincidence, but if it was a run-out model, then that still doesn't excuse the issue of woeful stock tracking - especially from a company that promotes that it is in full control of it's own manufacturing.

    • Make that 3 of us that have received the same email. I also think its very suspect that the model is now discontinued and guessing it may be back on the market again with a slight technical change and model number change at a higher price. How an online only company can oversell an apparantly "stocked" item is a bit hard to fathom.

Im yet to write back to Kogan, but likely to tell them that none of their options are acceptable.

Im curious as to what date and time you other guys ordered? Just give a rough idea rather than exact time. Mine was ordered Sunday night (4th Sept) between 9pm and 10pm. Paid by credit card.

Did anyone actually order the 100hz model and NOT receive the sold out email from Kogan? What time did you order? Have you got your TV yet?

Sure seems a bit baityswitcheroo to me and wondering if its worth our time following this up with DFT. Its my first time giving Kogan a try, so it would be unfortunate if it came to this.

      • Even I ordered Sunday evening between 6 and 7pm.

True that a company that sells only over the internet cannot have such lame system!
A false advertising campaign that backfired!!

    • Sunday morning purchase for me.

I also think it's a bit disingenuous of Kogan to say, (paraphrasing) "Hey, we're really sorry. We made a mistake. Apologies for the inconvenience and letting you down. Oh and btw, to really show just how truly sorry we are and to make it up to you, if you want to buy this other lower spec TV, we'll happily sell it to you… for the same price anyone can buy it at."

  • Funnily enough the Westfield store in Pitt St in Sydney still had the $329 deal going the day after on Sunday and I snapped the last one up.

There are a few things I can say about the unit.

1 - Initially used HDMI out 1920 x 1080p @ 60Hz from my laptop to connect and 1:1 pixel mapping was non existent. There was an underscan slider to resize the image but it didn't help - text and movies were so pixelated it made me want to return the TV ASAP.

2 - Massive flickering tazer-like sound coming from the top right corner behind the TV that is putting me off to the point where it makes me feel like the TV won't last. It's definitely an electric sound.

3 - Using VGA 1920 x 1080 @ 60Hz looks fantastic and has solved my PC connectivity issue - however it would be nice to have 1:1 pixel mapping to avoid using analog.

UPDATE: I returned the TV to a nearby JB to swap it for a new one that didn't have the flickering sound (and tested it before I took it) but when I got home and used it for a while - I got the same sound again for a good 10 minutes before it went away.

UPDATE: And now it's back again and hell annoying, although @ $329 I am relatively happy with the quality through VGA text looks perfect I just wish HDMI would be the same.

Gonna do a replacement warranty on it for $70 because anything under $350 can have a replacement warranty put on it should be worth it because they will just do a straight swap.

Will post further updates as I do some testing with HDMI out from PC and see why that heavy electrical sound comes out of it.

    Otherwise… reasonably happy for $329.

  • Soniq JB Hi-Fi TV is now $499. Oh well.
