Too Poor for Apple Pencil, What Are My Alternatives?

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with this.
I just bought an iPad, the Generation 7 iPad since I just wanted the cheapest one. All I'm doing is taking notes, and solving math questions on my iPad and using it to display work for University classes and there is no way in hell I am paying $150 for the Apple pencil. I get people say it's great, but there is no way it's $150 great unless they're artists/wealthy.

For mere muggles such as myself. Anyone know a good brand to buy from? I don't mind if it's some random eBay generic brand that's cheap. As long as it writes/feels fine and charges fine I'll god damn take it!

Any info would be great! Just looking for something usable. Also looking for TWS that are cheap if you happen to know anything about that. As long as it doesn't break in 6 months and had good connection I am down!

I read it as "too poor for an apple" and was going to send some money your way. But for an Apple pencil? Nope, you're on your own, mate :p

Bit like an owner of a Ferrari saying they own the car, but can’t afford the Pirelli tyres to go with it…

Anyway, +1 for the Logitech Crayon. That what I use, not because I can’t afford an Apple pen, but because I refuse to pay Apple’s extortionist prices for their peripherals.

Avoid the cheap generic stylus you find on eBay with the soft round tip (the ones which are compatible with any touch screen device)- they won't give you the precision you need on an iPad if you actually plan to do serious work/note taking/etc. I've had a few over the years including some good ones (eg Kuel H10) but none compare to the official Apple ones. I can't comment on the Logitech Crayon but I found both my 1st and 2nd gen Pro pencils to be a significantly better experience.

Alternatively maybe look for a second hand one on Gumtree? I recently sold my 1st gen iPad Pro pencil for $80 after upgrading to the iPad Pro 11" which had a different pencil.

  • Buys a Gen 7 iPad, cries too poor for Apple Pencil.

    • Better than buy apple pencil on special then cries too poor to buy iPad pro

You can get one of these instead, here's a video review

  • Or just get the same pencil through the education store for $129.

  • Eat some noodle for a week

    • Becareful, Instant noodles not apple branded noodles
