Help with Kogan Smart TV Connecting with Google Home App

Hi everyone. Looking for some help here and since I know many people have bought Kogan TVs in the past and I couldn’t find much help on the web thought I’d try here!

Just bought a Kogan 40” QF9000 Smart TV but I can’t figure out how to add it to my Google Home App on iOS and hence link it into the Google Home ecosystem so I can control it by google nest mini etc.

I tried opening up the Google Home App and adding a device as I would normally but it can’t find the TV (assuming that the TV is not transmitting any pairing signal perhaps). The tv itself as inbuilt Google Android OS, google assistant and Chromecast so I didn’t think it would be so hard to add it to my ecosystem.

I read somewhere to download the Kogan Smarter Home App which I did but honestly when I want to add a device a TV doesn’t even come up as an option - there’s lights, vacuums and just about every applicant but a TV. So I don’t know how to add it…

Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Kogan may have munted it. Had this problem with the inlaws a couple of weeks back, they wanted to install Netflix app on their Kogan TV and yet I couldn't even get the app store to work. After some googling I discovered that with that model of TV you couldn't add any apps other than what came with it. May be something similar going on with yours?

    • thanks for the reply. Hmmm I was able to install some apps on it like Disney+ which didn't come pre-loaded. Couldn't find the Kogan App on the TV but found it on my iPhone.

My problem is just that I have no idea how to get it linked up with Google Home.

  • +1

I had the same problem and kept getting the message "unable to add device into your Home" or something like it. I finally found a fix by resetting the TV from the Android TV menu and setting it up again without logging in to a Google account. Follow the instructions at the bottom of this page: https://support.google.com/googlenest/thread/5899720?hl=en

    Good luck!

    • thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try!

  • Btw it worked for me on a Kogan TV. Once you have it set up with the Google Home app, you can then sign into a Google account on the TV.

  • OK eventually had to contact Kogan and they said my TV model is not compatible with Google Home (though seems a bit weird since it has an android OS and also chromecast built in)…

so I've given up but somehow occasionally the TV can be controlled by my Google Home its just not full functionality.
