Has Your Employer Prepared an Emergency Coronavirus BCP & Your Industry?

We had our plan done on Friday. Everyone that could work from home will be set up with remote access.

  • Yep. Entire department got WFH access (50+ people) and my immediate manager is prepping us to practice all WFH for 1 day just to see if it works for our guys.

    • What industry are you in?

      • Software dev in finance

  • Community Health sector:
In prep for corona, my manager told me we are updating our phone software to enable better video calling (currently woeful). He said this will happen when the IT manager gets back from his Pacific cruise. 🤣
Remote computer connection will be rolled out to all staff.

    • Of course he is!

  • Not yet in Aust but our protection services unit has been constantly monitoring and updating the situation. In China our employees have been working from home since it started and plants shutdown. Initially travel to and from China was banned but now all international travel has been banned unless critical and anyone who does travel, even privately, must work from home for 14 days and obtain a clearance cert from a company approved doc before they return to an office. Same goes for anyone who even thinks they coming down with something.

I believe parts of our Europe, Mid East and Asia Pac operations have been advised to work from home where possible. Can't recall for North America. Local travel bans are also in place now same as for international.

Only steps remaining is to order all staff to work from home where possible and after that a complete and total shutdown but I think it'd have to get really bad before that would happen.

    • Our manager was told from our crisis management team that it’s highly possible there will be a shut down of public transport to the CBD in the future for a period of 2 weeks to months.

  • ours hasn't that im aware of, i.e. no communication.
some of our work could be done from home, but not enough to justify it.

if it hits here (Aus) really bad, and companies do start to have forced closures, wonder if the banks will be ok with providing allowances for people with loans so that repayments and interests etc could be frozen. otherwise there will be lots of families becoming homeless.

    • Lucky for people on Centrelink they will still get there payment.

  • Works in retails and company not even bothered to offer/provide hand sanitisers, let alone plan.

    • Oh sad! We have sanitizer booths near the lifts but are always empty!

  • +1

Just be prepared for the NBN to go into meltdown with everyone working from home - or bored due to school closures or looking after sick people watching Netflix etc

  • Hospitality, our employer just told us to stay home for 14 days if you have been to Wahun. Go to a doctor if you display flu-like symtpoms. And to be make sure we are washing our hands.

  • +1

I don't work in the city and there are no Chinese people at our office, so no. Just told everyone to keep washing their hands and practice basic hygiene.
