Looking to hire a suit for an event Early May 2020. On average during my adult life I have hired a suit about once every 5 years for different events, now in my mid 30s. I was quoted about $160 for the most basic hire of a suit with white shirt and tie as a recommended by a family member. Seems a bit steep to me. Any suggestions by fellow Ozbargainers on what prices I should be expecting for a basic suit hire? Will only require it for a single event pick up the day before and drop off the day after.

Maybe try going to a Tarocash store with her and her future hubby? She'll say what style she likes, he'll convince her that the suit looks fine
I doubt you'd notice much difference between a cheap rental and cheap purchase, just need to make sure it's the right fit
Oxford Outlet has super cheap quality suits.
buy a suit from TM Lewin. i'd suggest navy.

pants from $30you might spend more finding a set in the correct sizes. but doesn't have to be exact match. i got grey pants/jacket not from the same design and matched the colour and fabric pretty well.
I got three suits, two extra pants and 13 shirts for under $700 total over the last year shopping their sales.
RRP for the shirts alone was around $1300
