So many of these posts coming up - I'd say check in with the proper health authorities via their websites etc.

It's easy for OZB to say 'yes' or 'no' but NZ is still a big place with lots of people and no one here but you knows what you're itinerary is. As such, best to check the health authorities to see what they recommend you do and/or don't do.

    • will be on south island for 5 days doing hikes

    • This^^^
And keep on checking leading up to your trip, during your trip, and after your trip.
It is a moving target, with plenty of reaction (warranted or not).
But in the end, it is your decision.

Well, New Zealand only has 5 cases of the virus so technically they should be more scared of you.

Wear a cricket shirt and you'll guarantee yourself no human contact.

I would self isolate anyways, it's NZ afterall. Eww

Foot and mouth is a bigger worry.

  • I’m supposed to be heading there in April too. Who knows what will be happening by then. I’m going to hold my breath on the plane….
Seriously, If you are fit enough to do hiking you will probably do fine if you do catch it, and work with our Health folk on getting back at some stage without spreading it to anyone else.

do i need to self isolate when i get back though if the situation is still like this 5 ppl in NZ have contracted it ?

      • I'm sure there is better resources than asking OZB that question. The real question is why NZ at all?

      • If you contact Gov health authorities they will let you know. I think there may be a possibility. Just heard that the cruise that we were going to pick up in Auckland may be a no go. Exciting times eh.
I think we have lots of first world problems here. Time to consider what is actually important, family, friends etc and cherish those. If NZ doesn’t work out, maybe spend some time with family and hike in NZ another time.

      • Seriously? You asking for such a minor scenario? 5 ppl is hardly anything to be remotely concerned about. Crikey, I bet you're one of those eejits who's got a years worth of dunny paper.
Self isolate if you come back with a fever, dry cough and/or any of the other symptoms.
If you're really concerned, wash your hands at every possible opportunity and wear a P2/N95 mask on the plane.

        The direct answer is NO.

        • I think the short answer was yes….😂

  • In NZ at the moment, you should be more concerned about measles. I was reading they were having a minor outbreak

And that's far more virulent, and more deadly than coronavirus

    • Yes, but we have a freely-available vaccine for measles

      • Haha true, sorry i was thinking of it because i decided not to travel there with a little baby recently

  • You'll be fine, especially in the South Island

Going there next week - I think there'll be more worries on a crowded plane than in NZ itself.

    • YOU CAN GET IT RIDIN’
      YOU CAN GET IT SLIDIN’

YOU CAN GET IT IN A HOLE
      OR UP A POLE
YOU CAN GET IT DOING NOTHIN’ AT ALL

      YOU CAN GET IT WALKIN’
      YOU CAN GET IT TALKIN’
YOU CAN GET IT WORKING A PLOUGH

  • Just do it!

lol, all over red rover now.

  • I got a reply from Ministry of Health - Manatū Hauora as I had a flight tomorrow but I cancelled anyway.

"travellers are expected to self-isolate while in New Zealand but may leave New Zealand within the fourteen day period (if the airline will permit them to board and the country they are travelling to will accept them)."
