This game is short of being life-changing. If you can look past the obvious fan-servicy presentation of the main characters, it is actually quite deep and emotionally touching, after you beat the 3rd and final scenario.

I highly recommend everybody to play it, you will not be disappointed.

I was going to stop after the first play-through, but persevered and finished all three characters (took about 9-10 hours each). Definitely an amazing and unforgettable experience. I miss the music so much. I really hope they make another chapter of this game/series.

        I also loved this game

There are some massive flaws, but if you can get passed them. There is a rich experience here.

      • Have you played the original Nier?

        • I think the original and drakkenguard render well on rpcs3. Havent played it.

          • @DarthAntz: I haven't played Automata, but I have played Nier through 2 completions and wiki/youtube'd the other endings.
If you end up giving it a go, I would highly recommend at least 2 completions - to say any more would spoil too much.

It's fun and it throws in a few surprises here and there.

        • What is the best platform to play them on? These games were originally released on PS3, werent they? Ive heard that the game performance in these titles did not catch up to the director's vision…

@Greem85: PC, and then get the FAR mod to unlock FPS. I think playing this game at a higher fps is more important than playing it at 4K.

            • @DarthAntz: Did you have any issues with cutscenes and scripted scenes with an uncapped framerate? The FAR readme says those are known issues.

              • @elusive: yes. in the first opening scene, something locked up while in the flight mode, and i couldnt progress. that was because of the uncapped frame rate. so if you start the game, just unlock the frame rate when you get to the first base and you'll be fine.

      quite deep and emotionally touching

haha, it's just a video game

Still, a medium equally capable of evoking emotions as books, movies or tv shows.

Verry good game, fantastic music, everything about the game is perfect.

The only con is the extremely bad port to PC. Game is locked to 59fps no options for a dedicated button (fire, dodge) but still a fantastic game

    • Yea, if you're using a keyboard, you definitely want one of the various mods that at least adds a dedicated evade button. NAIOM is probably the best. But use a controller if at all possible.

  • +4

If you're playing on PC, getting a controller is heavily recommended. You may be able to connect an Xbox or PS controller if you have one. If not, the Logitech F310 is perfectly serviceable and probably the cheapest option (weird Chinese brands aside).

If you really must use a keyboard/mouse, look at one of the various mods/scripts that at least allow you to add a dedicated evade button (default is double-tap movement key, which is pure cancer to use). e.g. https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/1221-nier-auto… or https://steamcommunity.com/app/524220/discussions/0/13551230…

Fullscreen is janky - it doesn't render at actual fullscreen resolution. e.g. I had it set to fullscreen 2160p but it rendered around 720p. There is no borderless windowed. Your best bet is to grab Borderless Gaming and use it with windowed mode.

Also, avoid the highest MSAA option, at least on higher resolutions. On 2160p, it dropped from 40fps on 4x to <1fps on 8x. It's really hard to get back into settings to change it back when you're on <1fps…

Once you get past the console port silliness, it really is a great game, especially for the story and music.

    • FAR mod might be more appropriate for the resolution issue, it allows native full screen render resolution https://github.com/Kaldaien/FAR
It also allows FPS unlocking, and some other graphics and stability fixes

Fantastic game. I paid full price for it a few years back and would do it again to support the devs.

  • agree.

    it has to be experienced!
