Cheap third party car insurance options?

Looking to get a used 2015 Mazda 3 soon, just wondering what tricks (legal) to get cheaper rates?
Unfortunately I am a few months off 25 but alas my situation required a new vehicle.

I'm definitely going to look around for quotes. Thinking of Allianz, RACV, AAMI, Budget Direct at the moment.
Roughly what $ would I be looking at here? Never been in an accident (Full drivers for 2+ years) Will be doing my shopping around soon, but wanted to know your thoughts ozbargainers.
Any recommendations, tips?

I am going for Third Party cover (included roadside assist would be nice? but I assume this is generally for comprehensive cover)
I hear listing an older family member as an additional driver can help lower premiums?

Thanks in advance

Do you know how to input your details on those sites to obtain quotes?

You can use this site, surely you can get your own quotes…

    • ahaha fair enough, I was in the middle of doing one (For budget direct) and it was so damn long, so I figured I might hit up ozb for other tips during this process.

  • Sounds like your a perfect driver. Always get full insurance, never 3rd party. Increase your excess until you feel comfortable. Invest in a cheap dash cam for back up.

  • Please give us your details and we will enter it in for you for a quote. Ta

Budget Direct offer cheap roadside assist on top of their policies. Never used it, can't confirm who they outsource to.

  • You don't need any tricks for third party. It's so cheap. I'm paying $25 a month for third party, fire & theft for a 2009 Mazda 3 that I have no idea what its worth. $4,000?

Just go online and do and get a quote. It's so simple & easy to do. Be careful, 2 types of third party choices out there.

    • Its nice to be old sometimes.

Srsly I don't know how old you are, but the fact that old people complain of 'ageism' is absurd when you look at their insurance premiums.

  • Cheapest isn't always the best. Always readt the PDS to see what they cover. I can guarantee you the PDS for an expensive company isn't the same as a cheap company.

Some companies require you to nominate EVERY driver. If you are likely to loan your car to anyone else make sure your policy includes non listed drivers.

If you are only getting third party make sure you can afford to have your car written off and replaced with your own cash. Sometimes the other party will not pay up and you’ll be starting a thread here about how to get your car fixed while not insured.

Listing an older driver probably won’t help. They look at the youngest driver as the biggest risk.

Up the excess to reduce the premium.

There are no ‘tricks’. Insurance companies have covered the loopholes a long time ago.
