Page Suggestion: Cheapest Way to Get to/from Australian Airports

Could we make a page for the cheapest methods to get to Australian airports from the CBD? For example:

Sydney airport
400 bus or walk to/from Mascot station to catch the train to avoid the airport station gate access fees. (Previously this would have had the Opal hack in there.)

Melbourne airport
901 bus to Broadmeadows station and change for a train to the city.

The page could list options for each city/airport, along with the rough time and cost. (And include things like uber, taxi, parking for comparison too.)

Cheapest = walk. Cost is free, but time is $$$!

    • I mean obviously. And in most cases the more you pay the quicker the journey is.

But if we have a page that showed the different options you could for example decide for yourself whether it's worth paying another $10 for a 10 minute shorter journey.

It's less than two hours to walk to the city from Adelaide Airport!

    • Looks like I'll be swimming in the ocean then!

Money's a bit tight at the moment so I checked the distance from Sydney Domestic Airport to the Perth City YHA. The estimated walking time is 741 hours via National Highway 1, covering a distance of 3679 km. It will probably take me a bit over 3 months and wear out a few pairs of shoes, but it will be the experience of a lifetime, which is priceless.

I'll probably fly back so I don't miss too much work and can have leisure time with the grandchildren.

In Brisbane, catch the bus to DFO then take the free shuttle bus to the airport. It takes me 2 hours that way but as a student only cost me $2

    • Alternatively, you can catch a train to Toombul shopping centre, then take a taxi/uber or bus as above to the airport.
Taxi/uber (etc) is very good value if more than 1 person from here and don't want to deal with suitcases on buses.

Taking the train to the airport is expensive, so if you stop at the closest stop and switch transport methods it's much cheaper.

Should also keep in mind that using the bus method you need to ensure a lot of time. The Brisbane city bus can be late, and the airport shuttle from DFO does not stick to time schedules from what I've seen. If you miss it, it's a half hour wait (at least) for the next one.

  • Melbourne airport
901 bus to Broadmeadows station and change for a train to the city

Don’t forget the 59 tram to Airport West and then the 478/479/482 bus. Same price and no Broady station.

  • Get a friend or relative to drive you. Cost is usually nothing.

  • Perth: Bus 380 from Perth CBD to Perth Airport T2 Domestic and T1 International. You can bring your luggage in as there's a "rack" on both sides behind the driver.

    • Not on the way to the airport from the city though going by past experience (yes it was the 380)
