Best budget smartphone to purchase in-store in the next 24-48 hours?

Help please!

My iPhone SE is waterlogged (potentially for good, it had a good dunking :( ). I had been thinking about a second phone for emergencies anyway, so I don't want to buy anything significant or expensive as I was planning to upgrade to the iPhone SE 2 when that is released, hopefully later this year.

Can you suggest a good option to buy in-store over the weekend?

  • Optus network (or unlocked)
  • Smaller than 6" screen - something around the 5" mark would be better
  • Below $300

I don't want a dumb phone as I still need to access email etc.

Thank you!

Hard to go past the Nokia 2.3 even if the screen is bigger than you want. Any reason why you want something so tiny?

    • Coming from a 4" screen, I'm worried I won't cope, lol! I also have small hands. To be fair, I haven't ever tried a larger screen for a longer length of time.

Screens these days have a taller aspect ratio (i.e. narrower and taller than older phones), which will make it easier to reach across that what you might expect when adding 2 inches to your screen size.

        • Thanks! I hadn't realised. Better go play with some phones I think.

    I love my Motorola
It is basic as it does not come loaded with junk

  • Moto G5S plus
I bought it nearly 2 years ago for $300,
it was my first phone. I am a pensioner so I did a lot of research
It was unlocked, but can be easily unlocked. has 2 SIM slots, I use one for a SD card so I expand the memory
The camera is better than my Canon SX110IS running modified software
    It runs Android
It takes SIMs from both Optus & Helstra & does wide wide bands

I just gave a quick scan on that German site, check it out better and or check other places out :)

    • Thanks for the rec!

      • no sweat, I hope it helps

        • I have a Moto G5 Plus and enjoyed using it till last year. Although this and a good G5s Plus model

would still run smoothly for regular use with 3/4gb ram, the system is stuck on Oreo and no more

security updates last 12 months. If I had to get a phone now I would go for something newer than the

G5s Plus, not sure what to go for in the 5" range as most decent phones new now start from 5.5"

onwards. Have you read and followed on here for the Sharp S2 which was a real hit and one of the

smallest 5.5" screens around. I have one in as new condition only turned on a few times but great

small light phone for the $. If interested give me a private pm message.

          Good luck with your hunt.

          • @ozhunter68: So why are they still selling them new if they are no good?
You just have to have something else to sell, no thanks

Oreo is just an OS like W10 is to W7 is to XP
My last update on my Moto was August last year
This is an Android device, not a Windoze computer

Oreo is doing fine by me. I use Motorola as it comes loaded with the least amount of crap
