Herman Miller Aeron Chair, Sub $1600?

With the advent of a likely work shutdown, I'm looking to buy a Herman Miller Aeron chair for working from home. Can't find anything sub 1600 though. Living Edge has it $1689 or $1740 for a remastered version.

Anyone have any leads on a sub-$1600 Aeron? Thank you very much!

    Second hand?

I made a mistake buying new Aeron from Living Edge and ended up hating it. There was absolutely no difference from other ergonomic chair I bought for fraction of the price. That's when I realized sitting in the same position for 8+ hours is not healthy regardless how much you spend.

    • That's a shame!

I already have an Aeron at work which I love, I wouldn't be without it. Maybe it would be cheaper to bring the work one home… save ~$1700 that way, the true ozBargainer way!

      • If you are buying an item you are already familiar with, then I'd just buy at RRP. This is something you will use for years to come, $100 or $200 will make no difference in long-term.

        • Yep, when you break it down, cost of ownership is fairly low. eg mine is 14 years old in a couple of weeks and I paid $1080 for it. I use it a minimum of 4 hours a day so since new I've spent %0.052 per hour and in reality that minimum would be low as I've had plenty of 12+ hour days over those years.

@apsilon: Yes. You need to look at the life cycle cost for this item. It is high initially, but they last along time and the warranty is good. Had some fault with 1 arm and a tech came with 2 new arms to my house and replaced the items.

            • @Melb69: Yep, I had the gas lift replaced on site at about 10.5 year mark under warranty.

Oh in in my other reply that should've been $0.052 but I can't edit it.

hey mate whats the cheaper ergonomic chair you prefer?

    • I have also found the difference between one of these and a $400-500 knock off is negligible. Aeron might feel a bit lighter, smooth etc. but comfort wise not a lot of difference. You are right, 8+ hours in any chair no matter how comfortable is still terrible for our bodies. Better off investing in a motorized stand up desk and start working on getting use to that.

      • This is my setup now. Height adjustable desk + HAG Capisco 8106.

        • What is the model of desk you have? I'm a tall dude and struggling to find anything over 115cm stand up height.

Living edge will have a EOFY sale, but don't think you can wait that long. The only other way is to check used on Ebay or try office 2nd outlets. Mabybe even gumtree. Note that used ones may be a few years old and you wont have the 12 year warranty that comes with it unless you have a receipt from seller. For now your better off maybe seeing if you can use the office one or getting a temporary one for the short term. I swear by the Aeron. Have 3 of them, wish I had them at work rather than the cheap crappy ones we have there.

There's one on Ebay Vic now for $700 buy it now B size.

  • I got some great Herman Miller desk chairs when my workplace did an office refit and sold off the old furniture.. I bought three chairs for $20ea.. winning :)
