Entertaining game, a bit of a slog and repetitive though. Not too much of a story. Just clear one area then do another till the game is done. I’m almost all the way through at 20 hours. Gotta see how it ends now.

It's a pile of crap made to be a platform for microtransactions.

The game was purposefully made to be shit so that the user pays more money to make the game that they already paid for better.

After no one played it because it was shit they removed the microtransactions leaving the boring grindfest.

I just played it and there wasn't much of a grind. I think they reduced that too.

I think the current state of the game is definitely not a pile of crap, it is just tainted in peoples minds by whatever they did on launch.

    • I just finished the main story and thought it was great. The gameplay is very addictive. It's the perfect progression of the Shadow of Mordor system to a bigger scale.

It's just fun to capture and mess around with the orcs. I didn't find it too grindy, but perhaps coz I just enjoyed it, it's true a lot of the content is randomly generated, i.e. you just take and defend and retake the fortresses over and over again, or get into fights with unique orcs around the map. I've got 150 hours clocked, not sure how you did it in 20 haha.

I was also quite impressed by the turns the story took, but I suppose it's just the odd cutscene that doesn't matter to the gameplay.

I've sunk 80 hours into it and have found it totally enjoyable. It does have repetitive bits but the combat is just so darn enjoyable.

Between this and the original, I think I would rate the original slightly higher, but I had so much fun on this one, so it's no slouch at all.

At this price, I'd say give it a shot.

    • I've played a bit and couldn't bear with the stupid design that you cannot skip the boring monologue of your foe.

    Thanks, postage was only $2
Appears to be avaliable for Xbox and PS4 as well

    • Thank you.. I have added

  • Last year I bought the Gold edition steel book edition from JB for $19. It came with 2 expansions. Much sweeter deal imo

    • It has these in description, so looks like it is the same as what you bought

The JB Hi-Fi EXCLUSIVE Middle-earth: Shadow of War Steel Case Edition includes:

      Exclusive Steel Case packaging
      Slaughter Tribe Nemesis Expansion
      Outlaw Tribe Nemesis Expansion
      Silver War Chest

Sorry I mean the story expansions :x

        Blade of Galadriel Story Expansion
        Desolation of Mordor Story Expansion

        • So the Gold edition is complete? I have Shadow of Mordor GOTY Edition - if I'm going to grab Shadow of War, I'd prefer to have everything and not have to buy DLC on top!

          Cheers

@caprimulgus: Just check that it has those two story expansions. That's the valuable DLC. The "orc nemesis" packs are not necessary, just a few extra orc skins thrown into the pile.

Anyway it looks like this Steelbook edition DOES NOT contain the story expansions.

  • Sold. PS4 copy ordered.

  • At this price, I'd rather play it. Ordered a ps4 one. Thanks OP.

I played this game and really enjoyed it.
You would love it, in particular if you are a fan of LOTR.

    • True LOTR fans might get a bit offended by some of the lore decisions made in this game, that aren't quite what happened in the books. The game reinterprets a few things in interesting ways, which might be better accepted as an alternate canon than official canon.

The most obvious one that probably isn't a spoiler is that Shelob is a hot chick. Which is obviously not how it is portrayed in the movies, but in the books its a bit ambiguous, Shelob is a powerful old entity that is basically a demigod who might plausibly have the power to change forms.

      • Something something no true Scotsman. I think Christopher Tolkien (rest his soul) might be the only true LOTR fan, but this is me being pedantic.

I like to think of the games more in the way of Greek mythologies. Lots of different versions, some with embellishments thrown in (or taken out) but the same overarching story.

Like some branch of Greek mythology that never got told until now because it was lost or something, except this one is through a media conglomerate.

    • The link in OP post points to the PC version. That's the one that errors out. PS4 and XBone still available. If you're looking for one of those.

    • it seems the PS4 version has been taken off the website too

  • I think the game (not including DLC) is free with XGP?

    • Might be on Xbox for PC too.

  • I have a PC (i7 4770k GTX 1080), Xbox One S and a PS4 Pro; which would be the best to play this on? I have previously played Shadow of Mordor on PC (Steam).
