How to Consolidate Garage Remote Openers?

Hi OzBargain,

I have recently purchased an apartment. The apartment building has a security gate for the garage (which I have 2 copies of the remote) and my personal garage has a tilt door (which I have one copy of the remote). The apartments gate is branded ATA Tricode and my garage door is branded Merlin Tiltmaster.

I wish to:

  • Have an additional remote for my garage door so me and my partner can both access it; and
  • Combine the remote for the apartment gate and my garage onto the one remote opener.

I wanted to know my options. I know online I can purchase additional remote, but I think im after a universal one as they are differntly branded. Employee at Jaycar was unable to give any advice.

Does anyone in the OzBargain community have any experience with this? Is it possible to get 2 differently branded remotes combined? If so can you advise the best product?

Thanks.

    Sticky tape.

    • Let's make that Plan B. :)

        B is for best.

      • Might possibly be the only solution - there are a few different garage remote 'types' on the market that use different frequencies and 'standards' that aren't inter-operable.

I suspected this, but hoped it wasn't the case. I remember there used to be universal remotes, but that may have been a time before rolling codes?

Email [email protected]. These guys helped me with a remote question

    • Thanks. I'll give them a go.

      • Pls update us as I'm in a similar boat to you but my apartment complex has a different brand for the entrance gate which has some rolling encryption code so not too sure how that might work.

  • Can you post photos of the two remotes?

You might be able to add some smarts to your garage door so that it opens automatically when you arrive home if you are comfortable with that? That way you're down to one remote.

    Thread here

    • Thanks. I'll check that out.

May have found a solution. Thanks @supasaiyan

RemotePro advised that you cant have a single remote for multiple brands. Their recommendation is that I purchase a receiver the same brand as the apartment's gate (approx $100) and add the receiver onto my garage door. This would make the ATA remote compatible with both doors.
