Telstra Smart Modem - Time for an Upgrade

Hi OZB community!

I was given a Telstra Smart Modem with my last internet package, however I am finding it dropping out on a regular basis so thinking I need to upgrade

What am I looking for and what are some best value for moneys available at the moment?

    What is dropping out? The nbn connection? The wifi?

    If its the NBN connection (most likely) then a new modem isn't going to fix that.

    I have FTTN nbn if that is what you mean. How do I work out what the problem is? Netflix and the wifi on the phone just stops working

      With FTTN, it could be the copper being old and causing drop outs. Have you tried using ethernet to check whether it's not a router issue?

    Assuming a new modem/router is required, the best value for money is in fact another second hand Telstra/Technicolor Gateway Max/Gateway Frontier/Smart Modem (any of the hackable model) for $0-$50.
