PSA: BYOjet, Aunt Betty, etc, Have Just Dropped Their International Change Fee to $55 from $140 for COVID-19 Bookings

Should really be $0 if your flight is cancelled and you just want to use the service that you've already paid for, but at least this is a bit more reasonable than before.

    Still $55 too expensive.

Totally agree. They've already made their commission off the sale. They could just let their customers use the vouchers themselves in these extenuating circumstances instead of charging this compulsory fee.

  • Best jet, fly365. No thanks. Hopefully people pay with visa or Master card,if they must at these times.

  • PSA: Aunt Betty has probably gone under!
My friend's flight tickets were cancelled without notice. He found out at the airport this morning.
Airport staff said the tickets were cancelled the next day it was booked (by Aunt Betty).

Unable to contact Aunt Betty. No one picks up phone. They no longer accept email LOL
We are currently unable to accept emails due to volume due to COVID-19.

Looks like he is not the only one: https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/aunt-betty
Doing chargeback now. Not sure if there's a chargeback limit, total cost was around $3k. Poor him…

    • Aunt Betty are just a brand/trading name of Flight Centre so they can't "go under" without all of Flight Centre going into administration. Flight Centre will probably need to raise some money in the short term but I don't think they'll go under.

Also, call centres have closed in the Philippines which I believe is where Aunt Betty has theirs.

  • Has anyone here had to actually contact BYOjet? I've been on hold for 2+ hours unable to get through for cancellations.

    • In this thread, djsweet had success on the phone and chrisie got an email reply: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/525240

Although I think djsweet got through just before the Philippines call centres closed. I haven't of anyone getting through on the phones since then so good luck and let us know how you go!

    • there is a now a fb group trying to sue BYOJet. LOL not sure where that will get them.

I never got hold of them for a week of trying. I landed up paying another $4k to get my family home on the last flight out of south africa. Havent been able to contact them since. They called once (when i had already paid for my ticket) telling me there is nothing they can do and want to charge me $200 cancellation fee for a flight i never cancelled (airline cancelled it). Refused to give me a refund and to date no voucher.

I lodged a complaint with the ACCC. Suggest you do the same. I also contacted my bank notifying them of fraud as they have not provided a service and wont give my money back. Hoping the bank will reverse my payment.

I have already submitted a complaint to the ACCC but I have since gotten this email from BYOJET.

This email is to advise we have placed your tickets into credit (on hold). This is either by your request or because the airline has cancelled your booking. An email will follow in 7-14 days outlining how to use your credit. Kindly delay any contact requesting information regarding your credit. We are currently prioritising all customers that are trying to get home. ”

Annoying that they are not honouring Virgins cash refund, but I didn’t expect anything less tbh.

  • I can't ask BYOJet because they're prioritizing flights within 48 hours, but I have a flight (Singapore Airlines) that I booked through BYOJet for May 30th (until end of June). Does anyone know what Singapore's cancellation fee is for BYOJet purchased flights? I understand BYOJet take $250. I'm a bit worried about receiving a credit because I'm not sure when I can next travel.
