Anyone Else Experiencing Domestic Parcel Delays Due to COVID-19?

I ordered some things from Computer Alliance on Wednesday which shipped the same day (StarTrack Express). Was guaranteed to come on Friday, but I expected some delays due to COVID-19. However, tracking hasn't updated since Thursday and it is still in NSW (I'm in WA). Anyone else experiencing delays?

Australia Post have this up on their site:

Domestic Air Freight Handling Update
19 March 2020

Australia Post has a significant partnership with Qantas to move mail by air. Qantas has advised their freighter network is not affected following this morning’s announcement.

We are confident with this advice, there will be no impact on our delivery network, and we continue to operate as business as usual for our products.

This partnership gives Australia Post access to the largest dedicated freighter network in Australia.

Along with Qantas, we are very aware of the essential service Australia Post provides in supporting the communities in which we operate during this difficult time, and we are committed to continuing this.

My Airpods (Mar 20) and computer motherboard from CompAlliance (Mar 22) hasn't been marked as sent yet on ebay. I assume there will be a huge backlog of things needing to be shipped, cargo planes are full / max capacity, and courier services like StarTrack are probably impacted by the new interstate travel quarantine rules in place.

    • freight deliveries are allowed through the Queensland border shutdown apparently… just car / plane arrivals are not without a quarantine

I ordered a large package (Tv wall bracket) and it took three business days VIC to QLD last week. When I send parcels to WA, it usually goes to rail and this adds time. Computer Alliance may give you a refund for the express shipping as they would claim from Startrack.

Pretty much all my deliveries have been delayed from eastern states.
"Due to the coronavirus outbreak, deliveries may be delayed."

  • Had a delivery today from amazon via fastway, they did not leave the package, nor knock or ring the bell, then they sent a message to amazon saying the package was undeliverable, like its somehow my fault they couldnt deliver it.

Even though the same company delivered another package earlier in the day from amazon which was put in the mail box because it was small.

I would say the delivery drivers do not want any kind of contact with the recipient at all.

  • yes my anaconda order was pushed to later dates 3 times by auspost

  • Merged from Has Auspost been slow for you during the epidemic?

Waiting for my ebay package through regular auspost, taking a while even if in same state delivery, has it been slow for you? What are the fastest delivery online right now amazon? Courier?

    • +5

Amazon has been superfast for me. Next day. Aus post no issues either.

      • Had the opposite for me, ordered Doom Eternal yesterday morning and usually games come next day, wheras my eta is next Wednesday

        • What does it come in a magnetic tape format?

    • Yeah its been slow for me, I have 1 item that are late by a few days, and another where delivery looks like it will be close to two weeks from QLD to NSW (capital city to capital city).

My express packages have been fine though, delivered in 24 hours so no impact for me on that. I have nothing I'm really waiting for, so its fine for me but I am seeing an impact.

    • Auspost. Yes been affected. And it will get worse once state border closed. Eventhou freight logistics can go pass, but do expect delay from traffic jam.

      • Wish they put in express lanes for emergency services and freight.

    • +2

It has been random for me, some are a few days late, some are next day.

    • +1

Think it might depend on the package, I have things that arrive as normal/fast (mostly Amazon) and other things that are taking a bit longer than usual.

    • +1

Auspost volume has been through the roof with everyone stuck at home, so ordering in goods more than normal, plus it would appear a large chuck of the workers are also not working or delivering mail it seems in fear of touching the gem packages.

I haven't seen my local parcel van around for a good week now. I normally see them drive past at least 3 times a week from where I work.

    • Express Post sent last Thursday took a week instead of one business day to arrive…

    • I haven't found it to be any more hit and miss than usual. It seems to be the sellers that are taking the time to dispatch given they've surely had a massive increase in the last week.

I've done 6 orders in the last two days, hoping that some of them at least turn up on the same day so the poor delivery lady who is run off her feet isn't having to bring just one parcel a day for the next week!

      • +3

did you not see that it just says international delays, no mention of domestic delays. mine is same state delivery so does not apply.

        • We’re still delivering but there may be service impacts.

    • I ordered some of the Fat poppy coffee https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/526168 was roasted tuesday, shipped yesterday, and delivered today.
Was expecting a delay. Hats off to them, sure a lot of people are ordering online

      • hats off to who tho, courier/auspost? i'm guessing fat poppy didn't do the delivery, they just labeled and sent the package.

        • Hat's off to Australia post.

      • Glad to hear your coffee arrived so quickly! We roast all of our orders fresh to order and they're all despatched the day after they're roasted. We're Sydney based, so depending on where you live, it can take a number of days. We've tried many courier companies for our online orders, but find Australia Post is best for delivering to the home!

    • Yep been slow for me, Parcels moving from Chullora to Sydney in a week with no update since last week. Waiting for it to show up in Brisbane

      • It is more like drop shipping.

Tracking info received on 11/3 from Chullora then delivered on 28/3

    • Yes slow delivery here in Lane Cove Sydney. Items have been in tracking for days.

      • mine has not moved in tracking, yours?

    • They've been good for me so far.

    • Local seems quick. Interstate slower.

    • +3

Yes much slower, and the online tracking didn't update for a week after posting. Usual 2 day commercial delivery took 7 business days

    • Not that I can see; three days from the Sunshine Coast to Sydney for Parcel Post

    • Took 5 working days for a letter from a few streets away to reach me.

Auspost service levels are definitely taking a hit.

    • Definitely slow for me.

For my location, I can usually tell when the system is congested as the tracking shows that the parcels get redirected to a different distribution centre - in my case, it's usually "Sydney" which is a bit of a black hole.

I had a pair of parcels dispatched around the same time early Friday. Often, for parcels from these two suppliers the tracking would show "will be taken directly to your parcel locker" and they would arrive the next day.

One got routed to Sydney and sat there till this morning. The other followed it down the Sydney hole the next day, and is still sitting there in limbo. I'm hoping that get get lucky and have it arrive tomorrow.

I've been expecting a parcel and got a notification today saying "delivered" but nothing has been delivered!! No card left either. Cant get a hold of a "person" at auspost or the retailer. Since it shows as delivered by Auspost I don't know who to dispute it with and if I have any chance of recovering it or getting a refund.

I'd be happy with a delayed delivery any day as opposed to a non-delivery that shows up as delivered and leaves out any chance of disputing :(

      • :\

      • If you have Facebook, try message them there.

I guess it doesn't say left in a safe spot?

    • Yes slow delivery here in Lane Cove Sydney. Items have been in tracking for days.

    • Two months ago it took a small package 1 month to go from Melbourne to Sydney - it's normal to not meet delivery times

  • Ordered a wireless charger from banggood, it says shipped on Mar-1. At what point should I chase them?

    • Did you pay for the direct line or expedited shipping? If not, maybe the middle of this month?

I think they still provide tracking for the most basic shipping even though they don't advertise it, to protect from PayPal disputes and such.

      • Just the cheapest shipping. Says "No tracking number available." under my order :(

        • update, arrived Apr-22, which makes it 7 weeks or so

  • I have 5 packages now from week before last all sitting across Sydney (coming to Perth), figured they would be delayed which is fine.

My wife ordered some kids clothes from best and less, shipped last Thursday and here today!

    • It is taking 3 weeks minimum to get from eastern state to WA now. I am starting to receive my order that I order in the beginning of April.

  • +1

I ordered a model off ebay and it shipped from China, arrived at Sydney on March 15th. Have not had a change of status since. Im nearby so its not related to any domestic flight issues

  • Merged from Auspost shipping times during current situation

Anyone have any recent experience with auspost shipping times during the current situation?
I made an ebay purchase a few weeks ago, shipped from Melbourne to Perth. Auspost tracking shows picked up from sender on 26/3 and then 'processed at facility, Melbourne Vic' on 27/3.

Expected delivery still shows 3/4 which is well and truly passed. I was expecting delays but not quite this long. I've made other purchases after that which have already been delivered.

    • similar reginal nsw here waiting 3 weeks for package from melb.
have had other come in about a week.

    • +2

I sent a package from Melbourne on the 20th of March which arrived in Perth on this past Wednesday (8th April).

There is a huge backlog. I would not assume it lost or anything, just have to be patient. The side effect of the ceasing of basically all domestic flights is that there is significantly less cargo capacity in the market for AusPost to lean on, so much more will be going via road & rail until everything calms down and freight companies become more used to the "new normal".

Whatever capacity does exist in domestic air freight markets will of course be prioritised for medical, critical freight, premium services etc.

  • I ordered a computer monitor from Kogan to work from home and that was shipped on 25 March. Since 26 March it's been sitting in a processing facility in Sunshine West VIC. I'm in Metro WA and still haven't received it yet. ETA originally 30 March but got updated to Wed 1 Apr to Fri 3 Apr - Now it's just sitting as delayed.

  • I ordered several things from AliExpress in Jan and ealry Feb. They keep telling me due to covid 19 its delayed and keep waiting, and AliExpress cant do anything coz they keep extending the expected delivery :S

its been over 2 months for most items, and 1 item 3 months now.

  • Ordered something from Melbourne express to Sydney, was meant to arrive on Thursday, has now updated to being in Brisbane and estimated to arrive in Sydney on Monday.

Also have other orders stuck in “Your parcel is coming, Shipping information received by Australia Post” for days.

  • Yeah, it’s pretty slow at the moment. Parcel contractor who comes by my place says he’s busier than ever - van is loaded to the hilt. He’s pretty happy. I guess the rest of the network is struggling under the load though, and without all the air capacity that was previously available.

I sent something to Melbourne (from Canberra) on April 2nd. It went to Sydney first, as seems to be the way for Canberra to Melbourne, and reached Melbourne on 9th April. Over Easter it managed to find another facility in Melbourne, and hasn’t updated since. So far, that’s over two weeks (albeit with Easter in there). Usually Canberra to Melbourne (or vice versa) might take a week max. Things do seem to bounce around in Melbourne a lot though, even in normal times. As such, all other things being equal, I usually preference Sydney with any purchases I make.

Other items shipped to me are taking longer than usual too, although sometimes things seem to run smoothly. An item shipped to me from Warnambool on April 7th just reached me today (17th). YMMV.

I’m finding that Items coming from Sydney to Canberra are taking an extra day or two.

Some of the freight/courier companies are as fast as ever. Toll seems to be able to manage overnight from Sydney/Melbourne to Canberra still.

  • Ordered from Amazon with expedited delivery to Sydney metro, left their warehouse the next day, and got processed in AusPost Chullora facility a few hours later, just 14 kms away from where I am. That was over a week ago and haven't heard any update since. Auspost website says delays are to be expected.

    • I have 3 packages that got to Chullora since last Thursday. Still waiting.
I have 1 small package that was shipped Sunday, got to Chullora Monday, delivered today (Wed).
You'd maybe think they would deliver all at once, but seems like smaller packages are getting prioritized/selected for delivery.
      =(

  • COVID-19 is a smokey to cover Australia Post inefficiency. The following is why I refer Australia Post as "snail mail".
    I posted a parcel 23 March 2020 and was delivered 24 April 2020.
Item sent from post code 3xxx to 3xxx (same state), normally 2 day delivery, but took 1 month and 1 day to deliver parcel.
I could have personally walked the 70KM and delivered it in 17 hours, or by car in 1.5 hours?

  • Couple of my packages were returned to sender (ebay, catch) whereas I am still getting Amazon packages. Don't really understand why would post office return to sender? At worst if they are unable to fit in mail box then they could leave a slip for me to collect from post office! (they were actually small envelopers - phone cases without any tracking #). Has this happened with anyone? I think to be on safe side I will now give my local post office address and then will have to go and pick up - kind of destroys the whole stay at home concept.

  • At my household, there were a couple of items that just stopped.

One for over a week for me (carry on suitcase), that instead of sending it from Victoria to Victoria, they sent it to NSW.
A piece of clothing for a friend, sat for 2 weeks over in QLD (according to tracking).

We'd waited as per Australia Posts requests. Finally we put the tracking requests in. Mine, 2 days later, arrived (no tracking info showing how it got back or how long it'd been sitting at Melbourne PO)

My friend's was located within 2 hours in Melbourne and they'll finally deliver it.

Yep, like others we've had numerous other packages arrive quickly.

I won't be giving them more than 2 business days to update the status, any more.

  • yup, i think for most couriers.
mine even marked as delivered but it was only physically delivered at home after few days.

  • Have 6 items all posted before the 24th of aug.
    Some express.
None have arrived. Getting really frustrating.
