iPad 5 Charging Issues

My 7 yr old daughters ipad is not charging, battery says 1% & it won't turn on.
I'll be able to add a photo of the screen when I get home.
It's either the charging cable or battery itself that needs replacing.

Any ieas as the best option for repair be greatly appreciated.

Thank-you, have a great night ☺

  • Try charging with the new cable. I don't think there is problem with the battery. Initially it may take longer time to gain charge especially when the battery being discharged to very low level.

    • Thanks samuraijack,
When attempting to charge, I hold power button for 2-3secs & then display comes on in middle of the screen with a charging port symbol half white/half black with a lighting bolt at the end near the siri assistant button.
I cant add photos with my phone. Hope this helps to provide suggestions that could fix this for us to homeschool.

      Thank-You ☺

      • how long have you been charging the ipad? let it charge for 20-30 mins then try turning it on.

Make sure you're charging using a 10W/12W charger (whatever came with the iPad). If you're using an iPhone charger, it's like trying to fill a bucket with a leaking tap that you don't turn on.

And yes, try a new charging cable first, and confirm the charger works too.

    • Thanks millhouse, have been charging with the included charger, no success. Looks like I'll need someone to look at it to assess whether it's the charger, or ipad itself. Thanks for your suggestions :-)

  • My sons iPad 5 died after about 2 years and we got it replaced by apple. I turned it off one night and then it never turned on again.
I know apple stores are closed right now but I think you can contact them over the phone still. Before that try a different charger if you don’t have another one see if you can borrow one.
