Cheap Basketball Hoop for Home during Quarantine?

Need a basketball hoop for quarantine times. Would love it to be maybe less than $150?

  • For Christmas last year I bought a Spalding 54' Glass Hybrid system.

It is a good hoop but retails for $1200.

At my local Rebel sports they had them all displayed and you could sort of give them a try.

The cheaper acrylic board ones are well priced but you can virtually forget about bank shots as the board is too flimsey and will give way.

    get this
hard to find in store though

  • If you play basketball and want to get some real practice in I don't recommend getting a cheap basketball system. Needs to be solid/heavy, glass backboard, spring-loaded ring etc. Then it's nice to shoot on, the ball bounces off a missed shot as it should. You will use it more often and it will last many years longer.

  • +1

Back in my day, we made a hole in the laundry basket and tied it against the tree.

  • just be really careful about attaching it to a brick wall.

  • As others have said, the cheap ones don't really mimic a real setup as the pole and backboard is flexible. You can just hurl the ball at the backboard and it flops down into the net. Also, if you get one be sure to anchor it properly (and not just fill with water), my old one blew over and landed on the car :(

My current one is much better - found "broken" on hard rubbish, just needed a few bolts and an angle bracket from Bunnings to repair and good as new.
I see lots on hard rubbish

    • lol, just went to kmart and purchased the $79 hoop. Bracket wasn’t even bent from the factory so I returned it. But I got a replacement and opened it there to see if the bracket for the back of the backboard was bent. Wasn’t bent as well! Disappointing….
