Last year when I got mine installed there were plenty of installers offering sub $4000 6.6kw systems on my tile roof before rebate. So using $3776 worth of loans and rebates and still paying nearly $1k upfront doesn’t sound that great.

Especially in the corona economy. I’d imagine all installers are clamouring to offer deals at the moment…

      Hi stirlo,

Fair point! That being said, the value of the STC rebate compared to last year has reduced. In Victoria, a 6.6kW system is eligible for roughly $520 less federal rebate. Further to this, a lot of the installers offering those prices are no longer in business.

Regarding the Corona Virus, the market is doing quite the opposite! Due to the poor Aussie dollar (compared to the US Dollar), the panel and inverter prices have shot through the roof, and most installers are not able to offer bargain prices.

      Hope this helps :)

Now that's a smart/professional answer. You'll do well in business!!!!!

The Vic rebate has also decreased from last year, it used to be $2225 now it's $1888

Misleading prices. Not everyone is eligible for the rebate and you have to repay the loan.

    • Hi Nattie,

Not here to mislead anyone. With the character limit for the title, we are not able to put all the details. However, we specify that the prices are including the VIC Home Rebate and VIC Home Loan in the text.

      :)

when using from in the pricing as you have done, you no longer need to list every price point, which will give you more room to put + $1888 loan in the title

Someone doesn't know the meaning of upfront.

Isn't the household income cutoff for solar something like $180k? That's a pretty low threshold for a working household, and I'm not sure how many houses with less than $180k income would have $4k to throw at a solar system.

    • +5

      Strange post. If I earned 170k, I'm sure I could afford 4k.

      • Assuming there are two working people in your house, $180k is only $90k each. I’m sure if you earned $170k, it’s a very different story, but $90k and a mortgage? Not so much .

    • Hi Burnertoasty,

The application refers to the combined income of the homeowners. If the whole household owns the house, then yes, it would be a pretty low threshold.

However, if the whole household is working, the systems in Australia are already subsidised by the STC rebate.

      :)

      • That doesn’t make sense at all.

        • Designed to make dollars.

I really think you need to put in the total out of pocket price (incl. interest free loans). This is because, the loan is still considered out of pocket on top of cash upfront.

You could advertise it as below:

$2811 (Choice: either $2811 upfront or $923 upfront plus $1888 VicGov interest free loan)

Others may have other opinions. I hope this will assist you address the misleading prices comments.

Was planning to get solar before COVID-19 showed up.

You guys are lucky, cheapest solar with Ginko panel for us around $8k with the rebate in ACT.

  • Why are these posts allowed? MODS need to get their act together and weed out these rubbish deals.

    • the solar edge offer is 1k less than what I got quoted a few weeks ago alas I can't afford 2k extra just for 3% extra power.
fair point on the weak dollar too, all inverters are imported so I'd get on this or any offer before the prices change.
only thing I'm not sure about is whether energy prices go down with cheap oil or if that doesn't factor in somehow.

  • Buying a solar system is a lot more involved than a piece of clothing or a $200 piece of consumer electronics. I like some diversity to the ozbargain posts to give me fresh ideas.

  • I'm just getting started and collecting a few solar quotes - does anyone have suggestions on finding decent, independent reviews (e.g. Google feedback, not case studies on their website) of solar companies?

Rep, I can't find many reviews of your company (after a very short search) so feel free to add a few links. Looks like the domain has been around for a couple years and the ABN was tied with a book company before? (not judging, just curious)
