SMS Messaging from PC Desktop - Best Service & Method?

Looking to set up SMS messaging from PC Desktop
We have a current system provided by my franchise but it is inadequate
Basically customers reply with photos which we then have to log into Telstra pic to text site and dl 1 by 1
This morning we spent over an hour dl 60+ photos

Option 1
Get a cheap sim with unlimited text and set it up in an old phone
Then load Android Messages and use Message-to-Web or Pulse or whatever to send receive via browser

Option 2
Suggestions? Paid SMS web service etc.?
If anyone knows a good local service that integrates into Salesforce CRM there is a lottery ticket in it for you

Thanks all

  • I don't know if I should recommend them because I started getting spam on a phone number the same day I signed up for their service. Apparently a pure co-incidence.

But anyway, BurstSMS can receive MMS and send received images to an email address. And since it integrates with Zapier you can link it with SalesForce or whatever you want.

    • Will definitely check it out

      • Keep in mind we used a bulk SMS provider to make complying with ACMA unsubscribe regulations an automated process. It feels weird to pay considerable money for SMS in 2020, and I couldn't find any that were scaleably affordable.

But if your organisation has the money, maybe look into a native Salesforce messaging app that you can then even program with a process builder or even Apex. The popular CRM model these days where you're charged per user can quickly get expensive for small businesses.

It's easier to justify when a manual tasker's wages cost the same or more.

        • Thanks for the details
Turns out I already had an account with Burst from some time ago
An integrated solution with Salesforce would be ideal
Unfortunately I have no admin control over that or any integrations etc. as I am a franchise and HQ IT rule the roost
The solution provided by IT is a simple SMS via website - unfortunately it doesn't handle MMS
Burst online or even just an SMS sim might be easiest for now

  • +3

    Google messages app

    • Yep - that or Pulse app for desktop send/receive - need a cheap sim first i guess

  • Is there specific reason why customer need to send a message through the phone itself and not from any other messaging app?

    • Yes because people are dumb
We deal with a lot of technophobes and they can't email, FB msg, upload to cloud etc
But seems they can all MMS

  • I've used Twilio integrated into Salesforce.
It allows you to directly send an SMS from a contact record in Salesforce. The recipient can reply back and the reply will be added into the conversation on the Contact.
