This table is normally retailed for $554, which is already a quite low price for a solid Beech wood extendable dining table comparing to what you can find on the market. And now it's been discounted to $471 with free express shipping.

That's 15% off. And I agree with you that I should have put that out in the first place but I also know people won't be impressed with it comparing to those who put 50% off - they do it because they have the margin to do so but we can't because we had a fair price in the first place.

Yep, you are right. This is the best price we can provide to the customers and I bet you can't find this deal for this kind of quality solid wood table anywhere else. Unfortunately we are in a tough economy at the moment and all the retailers are offering discounts all year round just to stay alive…

So I can open a shop. Set a price for an item at $1000. Then, every 6 weeks post it on ozbargain for $800. Am I right here? I mean, it seems like doing an ad on here every 6 weeks and $800 is the true price…
I would be more impressed if it was always listed at a good price, with an unaltered extra discount for the ozb community every few months….but that's just me!
The store rep has answered this - did you read? Their prices are already pretty competitive and they're therefore able to offer only an additional 15%.
This seems reasonable to me, but if you thought there are other stores that offer similar quality products at a lesser price, you should provide that information to the store rep to validate your point.
To me, an additional 15% off to an already well priced item is good enough that it should at least not be negged.

I got this table and also some chairs during one of the last sales. I had been looking for one in this style at a good price for quite some time. Matt Blatt and freedom had a few from memory. But this was far better priced. I took the leap and purchased it sight unseen, and the table is top quality, chairs very comfortable and supportive too. Would purchase again.

Is free shipping something that only applies to this item or…?
Just tried to order a TV cabinet and sofa for $804 and got a $999 shipping fee lol, no nup thanks for playing.
Sorry about the confusion. As stated the wood furniture comes with free shipping. So the TV unit is free shipping. With sofas we can't provide a live quote on shipping and we had to put a value in there due to system requirements, so we put $999 with a comment next to it that says "Please speak to us to get a quote for all sofas due to sysyem limitations". If we put a low shipping cost there some people will proceed and ignore the comment which is not something we want to happen.
Sorry, the shipping estimates range from $90-$120 in the appropriate section (why they're not auto-calculated must mean it can cost more) and it states I need someone home to help offload the items; which is fair, but I can't drop work for a whole day just to be home for a 5-10 minute task. Guess I'll just hope you guys do another deal in July when I have booked time off, unless I don't bother at all or just go elsewhere (NOT a threat, just facts, sorry!).
We can ask the courier to drop it off at your property without a signature required. If you missed the delivery, the courier will get in touch with you to arrange for another delivery or you can collect it from your nearest depot. If that's still too much of a trouble, it's probably much easier to go to a local store, but bet you can't find something like this for this price.
