Delayed transfer from Catch Connect to Amaysim?

Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone is experiencing delays between transferring providers?

Last month I was on Catch Connects new customer deal ($4.90 - cashback) and that ended Friday week ago.
Last Tuesday, I activated my Amaysim SIM and started the transfer process. Got the text from Catch to confirm they've received it.

On Thursday I still hadn't heard anything and contacted Amaysim and they've blamed the COVID and lack of staff, causing a backlog of transfers.

Come to today, I still haven't heard anything and have been without service for over a week now.
Is anyone else in the same boat?

TIA

Same carrier to same carrier porting is horrible (in this case Optus to Optus).
Should have ported to a free Telstra sim from Catch and ported from the Telstra sim to Amaysim (Optus -> Telstra -> Optus) as it would have been done instantly 99% of the time.
Took 10 days for me - Virgin Mob to Optus a few years back

    • Wow I never knew that.

So what you're suggesting is transfer to the free telstra sim without having to pay anything, and then transfer to amaysim all within the same day?

      • So what you're suggesting is transfer to the free telstra sim without having to pay anything, and then transfer to amaysim all within the same day?

        Correct.
Generally, if you are porting to a different network (e.g. Optus -> Telstra or Optus -> Vodafone) it will be done on the same business day however if you do Optus -> Optus, there is going to be a delay

  • I'm facing the same porting delay issue from Circles.Life to Catch (both are on Optus network). It has been a week now since the initial activation and porting requesting. There was no porting delay 2 weeks ago when I ported another number from Circles.Life to Catch. It took 2 working days.

I was told that the Optus porting team is operating out of India and due to COVID-19, India is on lock down and the team has now been reduced significantly. The same network porting process is manual and with a reduced team, it would take much longer.

Since they can't tell when the porting would happen, I tried to port from Circles.life to Telstra today. Guess what? Telstra's online identity verification is down and no SIM activation is allowed.

  • I contacted them again on Monday morning and long story short, said if I didn't see activity in 24 hours , I'd be going to the ombudsman.

On my way to work on Tuesday I had an email saying my Amaysim sim had sucessfully ported and begun the plan.

    Funny?

    • You're lucky then because my ombudsman case against Optus has been dragging on since February 2020

  • I think it is Optus who are having loads of issues due to being outsourced in India which is under lockdown. They said it could take 1 to 2 MONTHS.

I've been trying to post away from Coles Mobile who use Optus to ANYONE ELSE

Lodged a request to port to Boost (Telstra) on both 30/03 and 11/04/2020

I spoke with Boost who advised the issue is Optus end. I've reported twice to the Ombudsman with nothing happening =/

I've just used another phone number in the same phone because the above situation is driving me bonkers since January 2020 I've had non stop issues with Coles Mobile / Floptus

    Email from ombudsman received 3rd April;

Thank you for letting us know that your complaint is still not resolved. I have sent your complaint to our dispute resolution area.

Unfortunately, because of the current volume of complaints to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman, we anticipate it will take up to four weeks before your case can be allocated to a case manager.

Get this. My Amaysim month runs out on the 28th, and last week I purchased a Catch 90 day sim with the cashback to make it $4.90 for the 3 months. I activated it yesterday, thinking it would take over a week, and port my number after the Amaysim plan expired, but it transferred and was ready to go in 2 hours?! So I lost a week of my Amaysim plan… Not happy, but still at least I don't have to port in/out for 3 months now lol..

Good luck with your case man

      • I have Amaysim and Kogan sims ready to try porting….

But I've auto forwarded all my calls to my temporary number and don't want to screw that up due to porting so I'm torn on what to do :(

Boost Mobile says my phone number is disconnected/inactive with Optus even though it's OK for all income calls/text

If Catch/Amaysim are the same provider then you're really lucky! I regret not porting out my number after 1 week of issues back in January as my second number with Belong Mobile is frikken fantastic service

Just did a port from Catch to Amaysim 5:13am Saturday. Ported successfully 11:47am.

    • Similar to my optus exp, usually within 4 hours. In your case, time starts counting from 8am.

I did many times a year and think delay by 4+ hours is the minority case.

  • I have just recently ported Catch - Lycra and then back to Catch, and each time was near instantaneous. Really awesome.
