  • If there is an upgrade maybe otherwise maybe not if its Powered by Android™ 2.1

  • Is it unlocked? If not, is there any way to unlock it?

    • Apparently from a whingepool thread > http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1659344
"Just got it from dicksmith in Brisbane got back home, put my vodafone card in: asks for unlock code googled zte racer unlock code, got this website: http://www.nextgenserver.com/calculator/
entered imei got unlock code straight away for free (: haven't even put telstra sim in"

And also; "Actually, with a Telstra pepaid kit if you read the small print you can return the prepaid SIM with $10.00 credit that comes with the phone and get a refund but there is a time limit involved."

  • or u can call telstra to unlock it for free, i work for them but i can't remember the direct number to the mob unlocking dept. but usually when u call them just ask to be transferred to unlock a mobile dept that is not an iphone. and they will be able to do it in 2mins with the IMEI number.

    • You might need to check knowhow or retail.live when you pop into work next. Unlocks aren't done for free. You usually either get transferred to pay-by-phone to have the unlocking fee paid via credit card, quote the receipt number for the in store payment you've made or have the charge deducted from your prepaid credit.

You might need to go to this page to refresh your memory in the meantime:
      http://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Prepaid-Mobiles/How-to…

The unlocking webform will advise you of the payment a customer is required to make (but it isn't strictly a hurdle and can be overcome by ignore it). To say it can be unlocked for free in a lie. You maybe unaware of this as the bulk of prepaid (and Telstra call work) is done offshore and either the knowledge has failed to be passed on; but it is more likely that this is beyond the scope of what you usually do and you are ignorant of the work instructions. It also sounds like someone didn't take in the lessons from their social media training. tsk tsk.

  • Is Galaxy 5 a better one?

  • -1

i think this is bad deal……. resistive screen?

  • It's not a BAD deal, but not a particularly good one. Being a Telstra Smart Touch I would assume there isn't much community support, specs are OK but locked to Telstra. Might as well pay an extra $10 for an unlocked samsung with a capacitive (Better) touch screen

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/52576

And another plus is that this phone supports Telstra NextG network so if you're on Telstra no worries but if not then you don't have to worry about unlocking the phone.

    • Yeah compare with samsung with next g capacitive with 10 dollars more… Make it a bad deal

  • Awful phone to use. Also woolworths had it for $49 or $59 when you paid for $40 credit, just in this last week (Advertiser newspaper advt).

  • It depends what you mean by 'awful', I guess. Hubby has only praise for his. He's more than happy with it. In fact, in the few months he's had it he's been using this instead of his Ipod touch ….. maybe I should claim the poor unwanted orphan. lol

Incidentally, it really is dead easy to unlock via the link on the whirlpool page. And although it's not sold as a blue-tick phone it's giving comparable coverage to the blue-tick phones that we do have.

  • Display 2.8“ QVGA Resistive Colour Touch Screen

This hubby thinks this phone sucks when the Galaxy 5 is $99

    • Yes, the recent price drop on the Galaxy makes it a very attractive alternative to this one. How's the ease of unlocking and reception on it do you know?

EDIT: It seems there are plenty of guides out there on the net for unlocking it, so the reception would be the only other issue - has anyone had experience with the galaxy 5 in regional areas?
