Where to Buy Windows 10 Pro?

Hi forum,

I have just bought a PC with Windows 10 Home (unactivated), and am looking to buy another laptop with Windows 10 Home (activated).

I'm wondering where the best play to buy Windows 10 Pro. It's actually really confusing, and prices vary wildly ($15-$200); it's hard to tell if I'm buying the software, or just a software key, and which of those ones I actually need to buy, considering I already have Windows 10 Home installed and just want to upgrade (but I want to get it cheaper, if possible, than buying it from Microsoft).

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Cheers!

Lunar New Year Sale. OEM so buy at your own risk.

What makes this more reputable than any other bulk license grey market seller?

      • GoodOffer24 gave TweakTown a really good offer to advertise their website.

    • Worth a look. Cheers!

  • Any of these sellers should work, if not just get a refund. But just note were the seller got these keys in the first place is questionable.

This seller has a good rating out of the bunch.

    • Not much risk at that price, I suppose. Thanks! My PCs aren't here yet but I'll keep that as an option.

I've bought and used multiple <5$ keys off sellers on eBay and had no problems

        • Do you know the sellers that have worked? Avoid 2nd-hand-world, they've sent me 12 keys so far and none of them have worked (bought two, and they've tried to stop me from negging them by sending me keys over and over)

          • @tassietigermaniac: Last person I bought from about a month ago is no longer a registered user time before that was a few years ago so I don't think they will be around either sorry.

            • @RandomFox: Did the key work though?

All those sellers on eBay have very low feedback ratings and appear to do huge volumes within a few days and then disappear. Do you actually get a working key?

              • @Jinster: I've purchased it from eBay 2 times over the years just go with the cheapest most genuine looking seller I think I paid around $4 and all times I've gotten working keys almost instantly. If I remember correctly the reason why their so cheap is because their licenses that are suppose to only be used by businesses on pre built machines so they get them cheap in bulk or something like that and very much not allowed to sell them keys. You have to first install the specific version of windows then activate and once activated if you change the CPU and or motherboard I don't remember the key will no longer work. I've been using the same windows key for years and it's still working.

                • @RandomFox: Nope, the reason they're cheap is because they're the common GOLD and RTM codes that you can find all over google. You literally paid $4 for an automated e-mail with a key that's available online. MS hasn't been banning these for some reason though.

                  • @Hybroid: Hmm alright I tried googling but don't really understand what GOLD and RTM codes mean other than some places saying Windows 10 don't have them. I googled the keys I received from the sellers and their not showing up on google giving me the impression they are not the same keys you speak of all over Google. What would one google to see these free for all keys that are all over google?

  • Windows 10 don't know where to buy but a pro, Surry hills

    • Yeah, read that, thanks. Was just wanting to see if anyone knew of specific places.

Not sure if you're a student, but my uni gave out Win Education for free, they had some thing with Microsoft I think so its worth taking a look if you are. Not sure if true but apparently education version is the same as enterprise so I think above pro.

    • I'm not, sadly, but I did see that deal and it'd be great. My mum is a teacher but her school isn't part of the program, disappointingly.

If you have an activated copy of Windows 7 or 8 you can still upgrade for free.

    1) Install Windows 7/8
    2) Update drivers (may or may not make a difference)
    3) Download Windows 10 Media Creation Tool or ISO
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/software-download/windows10
    4) Install Windows 10 from inside Windows 7/8

    To download ISO

    1) Open URL in Chrome
    2) hit F12 to open developer panel
    3) CTRL + SHIFT + M to show mobile mode
    4) F5 or refresh button to refresh page
    5) Should give download options
    6) I recommend "Windows 10 English" (US Version), not "Windows 10 English International" (UK Version) for keyboard support reasons
    7) 64-bit download is the version you're looking for in this day and age.

To extract ISO & Setup Windows 10

    1) Download 7-Zip https://www.7-zip.org/download.html https://www.7-zip.org/a/7z1900-x64.exe
    2) Install 7-Zip
    3) Move Windows 10 ISO file to D: (Not C: is the important part)
    4) Right click windows10 ISO > 7-Zip > Extract to "Windows ISO Name 10\"
    5) Open the newly created "Windows ISO Name 10" folder and run Setup.exe from windows
    6) Go through all the upgrade stuff until complete
    7) Open "Windows Explorer", right click "This PC", click "Properties"
    8) It should hopefully say "Windows is activated"

    • I did these steps for a friend just 2 weeks ago on Windows 7 Pro and activated happily.
    • Media creation tool kept crashing, hence why I came up with the extract the ISO method.
    • Windows 7 / 8 must be activated before upgrading
    • Home versions should upgrade to Windows 10 Home
    • Pro/Ultimate versions should upgrade to fre Windows 10 Pro
    • You can reinstall Windows 10 freely in the future on the same PC with auto hardware activation, no need to upgrade again

I bought from Kinguin a couple of weeks back, which are grey market keys. With those you can't just do an upgrade though, you have to do a complete re-install.

    • That will be the question/possible issue for me, considering I'll effectively want to upgrade 2 versions of Home to 2 versions of Pro.

I've bought from many sellers on the Microsoft Software Swap subreddit over the years without issue.

Also just built a PC for a mate and bought his copy from G2A. First two seller sent me didn't work, but third time was the charm. Probably not worth the trouble to save $10.
