Which Macpac jacket to buy?

Looking for a puffer jacket and saw Macpac was having a sale. What's the difference between the Uber light one ($99) and the Halo Down jacket ($139.99 womens)? They both seem to have the same filling. Also, how does this compare to the uniqlo one which has 90/10 filling compared to Macpac 85/15? Thanks

(He that would pun would pick a stuff sack pocket.)

    • A perfectly accurate answer from elgrande.

  • Uber light is thin.
    Halo is the standard one.

    I'd recommend the halo.

    • Thanks!

    Which Macpac jacket to buy?

    The one in your size

    • This. Puffer jackets can really vary with the cut and fit. I find most are cut too wide across the shoulders and are too straight through the hips. You really need to try multiple on and see what you like though that is quite difficult at the moment. Buy from somewhere with free returns.

Uber light is a lot thinner, perfect for people like me who run hot, or for a Spring/Autumn jacket. Halo is a lot warmer, more a winter jacket or for people who feel the cold more in Spring/Autumn.

    • Thanks but I am after a thin one!

  • I have the Halo down jacket best value/quality you could get, but i would pay extra for the hooded version if i could choose again :(

Edited: https://www.macpac.com.au/halo-range/macpac-halo-hooded-down… actually cheaper to get the hooded version RN lol

    • Thanks I'll have a look!

  • The difference between uber light and halo is the amount of down feathers, meaning how warm the jacket is.

I have had a halo down jacket for 4 years. I have taken it on trips all over the world, including at high altitude in the himalayas and mountaineering in NW USA. I have also taken it for tasmanian winter, and even nights in tasmanian summer. It is a great mid-weight down jacket that is useful for most climates, and as such I always bring it when I go travelling.

If you don't plan on going outdoors, or just want to wear it in Australia, the uber light jacket will probably be enough. You can wear another layer with it if you get cold. But if you want it to be useful in Tasmanian winter, mainland ski season, or any other country that gets reasonably cold, get the halo down jacket.

The hood is also very valuable and worth any extra money. One of these jackets can last a very long time.

Regarding the macpac vs uniqlo, I reckon they are all made in a similar factory in china. If you want it for style get the uniqlo, if you want it for function get the macpac.

    • Thanks, you're right it's just for casual wear in which case probably don't want something too bulky or with a hood.
