Info on discount food grocery items

Didnt know which Forum to put this in,

Im currently studying Financial Counselling online and will do my assignment this week on free or discounted food for homeless & low income people

Im after info on current free or discounted food homeless food vans, soup kitchens, discounted restaurants or discount food grocery apps regarding this., the clients will be low income families though mostly rather than homeless

Im doing both Melbourne and Sydney so need info on both

Times are not important really just info on discounted or free food.

This is food grocery only, dont need info on other things

I want to knowto help mostly families though not many homeless go into getting access to financial counseling so if u know places that used to give out their leftover food or even discount it.

I have put down the markets eg Paddys Markets etc ( even though its not opened currently, most places probably wont be opened i guess

4categories i have to address

1/ Religious/welfare charities eg Anglicare , Vinnies etc, and times and days i will research .

2/ PRIVATE Business - eg Restaurant that provides discounted food at end of day, theres a few in Sydney i have listed

3/ Govt Assistance - what do NSW and VIC State Govt provide in food / grocery assistance, ?
 What about Federal Govt ?

4/ Technology? …apps on food , food discounts, food welfare info

Sydney and Melbourne only

Personally, I love going to Coles or Woolies after 8.30PM or so to find baked goods on discount. Can buy a few and even put in the freezer.

Have heard of apps that show when restaurants are selling meals on discount at the end of the day like Eat Club.

Most Coles do bread discount in the morning in oppose to Woolies at night

Not an app but a list of Melbourne's community food programs.

Op seem you want us to do your assignment for you.

Many bread chain like bread top , Baker delight never discount their bread. They tend to throw them away instead. I think if the charity food bank can liaise them with the age care facility or homeless people, the surplus of food would be enough to feed thousand of people

I used to work at a low socio-economic school and some bakeries would donate their day old bread to our breakfast program. Some places still do help out.

      • If the big chain can help it make big different

  • Its a bit concerning that you haven't mentioned any of the food support services/charities for the homeless and low income, and that you seem to be lumping these two groups with vastly different needs together.
Can I suggest you get off ozbargain and spend some time learning about this, rather than posting a question for others at what is clearly step one of your research?

    Hi,

Can I suggest you look at:

    Under Food or Everyday Things

This is more of a resource to find places based on location.
