Cheap Decent Car Hire out of Brisbane Airport

As above, for 5 days, need 2 car seats. I know some of the majors are quite expensive compared to the smaller car hire places. A couple years ago rented a car from the Gold Coast airport and it would have been nearly half the price of the majors. Cannot remember the name, but family business and had no issues. Just after a similar one in Brisbane…..

  • Whats your budget?
if you book from www.racv.com.au car seats are FREE and they are with Thrifty (i.e you can pick it up at the airport). That will save you some time and $.
I would say $35 - $40 per day is a good price for a HYundai Getz Automatic. You may be able to get lower at other place, but with 2 kids in tow.. I doubt you could get better value at other place.

    • Also if you are with NRMA you can get 15% discount as they own Thrifty.

you could try operators like alpha and east coast car rental. they are based outside of the airport so tend to be cheaper than the majors - you get to/from the office via their shuttle bus, so it's still pretty convenient.

pretty sure there are a few other similar companies (ie non-majors who aren't based directly at the airport), but can't think of their names off hand… these are two that i've interacted with recently.

fwiw i used east coast during a trip to melbourne recently and found them generally fine to deal with. have experienced a few issues with alpha (in trying to rent from them myself, and witnessed as a bystander to overseas visitors who used them).

    How did you go?

I personally think you can't ignore the comparison sites these days (unless you have a coupon / offer). They have all sorts of deals directly with providers that often results in below-cost rentals - [compare car rental Brisbane] (http://comparecarrental.com.au/australia/brisbane "title") - I use that site quite alot - good customer service. Hope this helps…

    • this seems to be a straight out comparison site to me… it

      • aggregates results/quotes (can't see where any sort of direct deals would be happening)
      • from the majors (did a couple of searches for different locations and no smaller/non-major operators appeared in the results - these are the ones the OP wanted to know about…)
      • and hands you over to the rental provider of your choice (their customer service is irrelevant when your actual booking/payment is with the rental company rather than the comparison site)

      maybe i'm missing something?

Apologies, I was simply passing on my recco. Like I said, I think they prices they get are often cheaper than going direct - helps if you can't find a deal.

        Go well mate
