AmEx Platinum Charge Card Payslip Question

I am thinking of applying for the AMEX Platinum Charge card.

I have applied and still hold AMEX cards such as the Explorer.
So far, AMEX has never asked for playslips when i applied for the Explorer , Velocity Platinum etc.

To those who have successfully applied for the AMEX Platinum charge card, did AMEX ask for payslips ?

And, did any current AMEX card holders still manage to get the bonus points? Even though they are not supposed to ?

Never got asked for a single payslip. Someone I know on a different forum had been sent letters requesting for them to verify their income so it is possible they may ask for it retrospectively.

You'll need to sit out the 18 months to get your points again if you already hold an Amex as a basic cardmember. Supps don't count so hypothetically if your partner isn't a basic cardmember but only a supp of your existing Amex and meet the income criteria then put her name down for one. Then you get rid of your Amex's. Sit out the 18 months rinse and repeat…

I got rid of my card after 10 years when the targeted offers dried up, points deval and the concierge is next to useless compared to when I first got the card so you're paying $1450 for not much other than $800 worth of travel credits that you're forced to use.

      $800 worth of travel credits

From what I can see it's $450 worth of travel credit… was it $800 when it was first launched?

The platinum reserve credit card is free with plat charge, comes with its own $400 credit.

I got mine last May and yes they did ask for 3 months payslip + a letter of employment, but maybe that has something to do with me being on a working VISA.
Since that was the first Amex card I got here, I got the bonus points so can't comment on current cardholders.
The card was worth it for me last year since I was flying pretty much every month, I also made a lot of big payments having just moved to Sydney, the perks were pretty good for a high end card. But I'm considering cancelling it this year since I can't see it's value while sitting my ass at home 24/7

  • Thanks everyone for the replies. I guess i will wait until i really have a lot of travel coming up, before applying.
