COVID-19 Video Game Backlog Collections

After picking up Final Fantasy 7 Remake last week it dawned on me, I still have a couple titles I haven't finished yet..

This has me intrigued to find out; how many games do you currently have on your "I'll get around to playing it one day" backlog?

PS Plus, Xbox Live Gold and Steam freebies don't count!

I'll start, I have 3!

I could probably put down a couple of dozen if I thought about it, however, I often start a game, enjoy it and then get distracted by it and never come back to it.

    • I feel you there.. I'm a massive DBZ fan see, went out and purchased the Kakarot Deluxe Edition (love the game) but its still sitting on the backlog.. I find myself being dragged back into D2 to complete daily/ weekly content..

      • My issue is I get time to play games in the late evenings when everybody is in bed, all my friends are online playing Dota 2 - so I end up playing that instead.

I don't think any of enjoying the game so much anymore, but it brings us all together…and usually doesn't destroy our friendships.

  • I got through most of them in the last 2 years (~15 games) after someone posted a similar post.

But now I categorise games as 'backlog' and 'freebie'. 'Want to play' and 'in the pile'. Just my shamecutting technique.

  • About 30 on console at the moment :( its funny because most of them are big named ones which I paid preorderish price for only for it to lay there doing nothing while I replay the same old fun games.

THIS! See my comment above! I've picked up so many titles at launch and I wouldn't say regretted because of the additional content received but in hindsight should have picked up when I would actually play it (and so much cheaper lol!)

You don't PC game I take it

  • so far only spiderman ps4 haha. Luckily I bought it at discounted price, so not really having much regret if I don't finish it…I think I'm in the last mission, maybe I just watch the ending in Youtube and consider it done :D

Just off the top of my head:

Persona 5 Royal (stuck in the office while I am wfh)
FF 12 (stuck on a boss)
    Cuphead (haven't started)
Hollow Knight (stuck on a boss)
    Nier Automata (got lost)
    Fallout 4 (lost interest)
Octopath Traveller (took a break from it)
Crash Bandicoot Trilogy (too frustrating for me and felt unfair at times)
    Uncharted 4 (lost interest)
God of War 3 Remaster (haven't started)
    Infamous Second Son (haven't started)
    Bioshock 3 (haven't started)
    Witcher 2 & 3 (haven't started)

Oh gosh, probably another 5 or so in my pile of shame (but it is getting smaller)!

  • Gears of War 4 final Boss
Gears of War 5 first Chapter
God of War PS4 First boss fight
    Horizon Zero Dawn
    The Last of Us
Almost every Batman Game across PlayStation Vita and PS4
    Uncharted 4

And all I am enjoying these days is Tetris Effect and Burnout Paradise Remastered

Definitely suggest finishing The Last of Us, just so you can see the pain we are all in with Part 2 being delayed indefinitely :( haha

Very late to the Xbox party after a 10+ break of no console and grabbed a one s. Then grabbed top 20 basically.
Gears 4 blew me away the other day, atmos and hdr.
Looking forward to getting series X and then starting Red Dead 1+2 on the shelf - no rush

I'm sort of like you. Used to game avidly, basically stopped for 5 years when my kids were born, started again a year ago. I've been playing the XB1X since Jan 2020 and bought a PS4 in Dec/20. Bought a 4K TV at the same time.

Games are heavily discounted if you are a few years behind the curve, so I was able to buy tonnes of games at low price. At one point I was tracking my purchases and I was averaging out $16 per game. E.g playing AC Origins right now, bought it for $18 from Amazon about a year ago. My rule is I try to never buy a game over $30 - only ever broken for RDR2 at the time I bought the XB1X, and Dirt Rally 2.0 which was $31 on heavy discount.

I probably have 100-120 purchased games pending to play and I'd realistically get through 10-20 games per year, so that's a nice few years of gaming left. When the next gen comes out, I'll still have tonnes to do on my XB1X, so when I do eventually buy a new console they'll be well broken in, may even be a hardware update and games will again be much cheaper than new release.

Also modern games don't seem to age as badly as they used to, esp with MS supporting lots of backwards compatibility, including the odd free 4K or HD remaster.

Yeah it's pretty amazing to dive in to large catalog.
Finally installed GTA5 last month and I'm like dam this isn't appropriate language for teenagers. (Turns it up muhaha)

  • Looks at Steam library, yeah maybe I should start playing of those games I forgot that had.

I easily would have 3,000+ games on my backlog at this point across all the consoles/handhelds/PCs that i currently own (let alone ones i dont!).

The cheapest games aren't at your local store on online shop. They are in your back catalog.

I just collect them, i dont play them.

  • I've set myself the goal to get rid of my backlog before the PS5 comes out (mostly play on the PS4 and bit on Switch). I can't play a game and not finish it unless it's utterly terrible. This isolation so far (while working from home) I've finished Fallout 4, got some time in Zelda: Link's Awakening and started Mafia III. But still got some 10+ games to go.. mostly games that are 40+ hours to finish.

  • Hundreds for sure. Thanks, Steam.

  • So far I've reached the end credits of Dead Cells and Witcher 3 - the latter of which greatly ruined my expectations of every other game. Nothing matches up.

Since then I've started (but not finished):
    Luigi's Mansion 3
    Valiant Hearts
    The Messenger

I've made progress in Unravel 2.

I have a mental list of games to get through that looks like this:
    Shadow of the Tomb Raider
    Life is Strange 2
    Spyro Reignited Trilogy
Ori and the Will of the Wisps

But realistically I'm probably just going to waste all my time in Rocket League and the Witcher 3 DLC
