This Is a Warning to Anyone Contemplating Purchasing Goods from Tecobuy...

Please be careful if you are thinking about buying from TecoBuy online stores? My first hand experience with TecoBuy is consistent with many complaints that I have seen on numerous Business review websites. Just Google TecoBuy reviews or check out their Facebook page and you'll get an understanding of just how bad they are and how many 'customers' have been burnt!!

I am one of those 'customers' who purchased an item from TecoBuy only for it not to be delivered! What makes them so frustrating to deal with is that their customer service department is non existent! Even though they have an online customer help line, no one will respond.

They gave me a Tracking number that was fake, and the website the parcel tracking link takes me to seems fake too? I've had no response from their refund/complaints department either! Lastly they make out they are an Australian company, but they are in Hong Kong. I got no answer from my enquiry re the subject of duties or hidden costs! Please beware as so much points to them being a fraudulent business!!

So a word of advice stay away from them if you value your sanity, not to mention your money!! You will get fleeced!!

  • i bought from techo buy and got my item, but yes, its a hong kong based company and returns will probally be hard to get.

    • More recently it seems that they have a shocking reputation. If you can take 10 mins just check the feedback left on TecoBuy's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/tecobuy/
There are so many people feeling aggrieved and exasperated by their dealings with them. Maybe they are operating with a skeleton staff as a result of the pandemic? Who knows?

How long have you waited for the item to be delivered? Looks like around 2 weeks according to there website. Where does it say they're Australian?

Hong Kong based items can take up to 4-5 weeks.

    • I did a price check/availability for a particular product in Australia using Google and it threw up many options including www.tecobuy.com/en_AU/
I made the assumption that it was an Asian business with a distribution warehouse in NSW. I sent 5 enquires to them without reply and just bit the bulllet one day & ordered the goods. I've been waiting since early Jan.

        Where'd you get NSW from?

The ".com" should've been the first red flag. "En_au" is just the language/currency option

        • Yep got that bit. I haven't received my goods after 2 months and that's the bit I'm concerned about. I have been patient but 2 months is stretching it.

There is no communication. Be it for general enquires, complaints or refunds?

        Seems consistent, your problem is?

        • It appears that you seem to miss the fact that I never received the goods I paid for? Which is consistent(to use your terminology) with a lot of the TecoBuy customer complaints I've read.

          • @Ginza:

I sent 5 enquires to them without reply

            Pertinent point…

What did I miss? they didn't reply to your initial queries, you ordered anyway, and are now complaining about lack of communication.

@randomusername2017: Mate you are just splitting hairs! The complaint is like what numerous people have experienced with them….I didn't get my goods! End of story. The rest matters little!

I have purchased off tecobuy twice - it was fine.

The issue you are facing could be to do with the fact that it is near impossible for general international mail to get on a flight at the moment.
There is a massive shortage of airfreight capacity, especially out of China, so expect your package to be put on a ship and arrive in 4-5 weeks time, even if you purchased faster shipping.

This. I organise some products from China for the company I work for, and we ship with DHL. Items that normally take 4-5 days to arrive have been sitting in Hong Kong for 2 weeks now because of the shortage of air cargo space, and we don’t expect to be receiving the products for another 2 weeks at least.

Can validate this comment is true.

      • Thanks for that info.

Don't majority of these HK based retailers send by ship anyway?

      • +1

From memory tecobuy were quite quick, definitely went via air.
Most of the cheap ebay/aliexpress stuff goes via sea.

    • Thanks. Your comment is most helpful.

  • Ok lets just assume that my parcel is in transit in a very slow ship from China. However my complaint is broader. There is no communication. Be it for general enquires, complaints or refunds? How can a company operate like this without you(me) thinking the worst? You immediately think you've been fleeced!
What I am sensing is that for every customer that has had a good experience with TecoBuy, there is another two that haven't? I've had such good luck on eBay with sellers all over the world. But this experience with TecoBuy has been exasperating!!
It would be very simple for TecoBuy to post something on their website informing customers of pending delays in delivery of their goods due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic? But they haven't and they just leave current customers like me up in the air? It takes so little to soothe a frustrated customer. By refusing to respond to emails just exacerbates the problem! It really isn't good business in my eyes.

It's a dropshipper or similar, they never have good communication. Should have read the reviews before having an issue I suppose.

        Hidden agenda?

        • Sorry but what are you implying?

      • -1

Yep true. In hindsight I should've read the reviews but needed some lighting equipment that wasn't readably available in retail outlets and took a punt! Ouch…

  • +2

Contact us page clearly says they are based in Hong Kong. As other have mentioned, it is near impossible to get any parcel from overseas. Heck even parcels between Melbourne and Sydney are affected where it is taking more than 2 weeks.

If you paid by credit card just do a charge back. That will either get them to communicate or you'll get your money back.
