  • $325 is still very expensive IMHO.

Braun still have their 60 day try and return for refund running as well (even though the website isnt updated)

I bought a series 5 a couple of months ago….used it a couple of times, decided to stick with a razor. Sent it back and claimed the refund ($199)..just awaiting the cheque refund which does take a while to come.

    • Bought this a while back and then later bought a Pansonic top of the range model too and found the Panasonic much better, closer, quicker and more rapid charging. Nothing wrong with the Braun at all but just wanted to point out there are possibly better alternatives.

      • What model did you buy? Am thinking of buying series 5 which is for 99$ at shaver shop. Cheers

        • I got the Arc 5 - ESLV65, I think it was around $200 on special.

  • I've pretty hard stubble, moved from Philips rotary to this 6months ago and I do regret it, but not enough to change it out.

The foil needs you to do multiple passes in various grain directions or you are left with dark stubble, and a very obvious unshaven look.

If you persist, so it will take longer to shave, but the result is a veeery slightly better shave.

The most annoying though is the head leaks shavings, from new, I shave over a white benchtops and with this one I need to clean the bench after every shave, really annoying. Yes I keep the foil empty, I asked support via email last week (shaver shop), and of course got no reply.

I'll persist but hopefully this helps. I wouldn't have bought it if I had of known, and yep I got it around this price back then.

This all depends on your skin and hair type. For me, none of the Phillips range worked - tried all the top models several times over the years and returned them. Admittedly not recently so things might have changed. I'm firmly in the Braun camp, my trusty series 7 still works fantastically, I've replaced the head/blade with refills 3 times in 10 years, and use the clean/renew liquid weekly. When I decided to shave my head for a few months, after a couple of bad experiences with razors I tried the Braun and it worked great.

Yes it's not as close as a razor but it is as fast and does a great job getting close (at the highest setting) without razor burn on my very thick hair.

I find that the clean/renew liquid dries up very quickly. So I keep its lid on after every clean. Lasts many weeks for me.

  • Will this work in a series 7 cleaning station?

    • Unlikely. The previous Series 9 wouldn't even work in a Series 9 cleaning station unless you got the model that came with one.

  • I have stop using these electric shaver as the replacement shield and blade is excessive. Similar to buying ink jet printer. I have 3 sitting at home that is functioning well except the cutting unit need to be replace but they are just too expensive.

  • I had a series 7 and bought this. My stubble grows thick and fast and in all directions. No regrets
