Wi-Fi Smart Plug Recommendations

Hi guys,

I am looking at purchasing a wifi smart plug for use with a coffee machine. I need something that is small and can still fit 2x plugs in a standard double power outlet.
The smart plugs that I have seen all seem to be too big and bulky not allow for 2 appliances to fit in a standard power outlet.
I also need something that has a decent app that I can set a reoccurring timer on.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

    I just bought 4xhs100
    I haven't opened them yet .

      Cool story. 😂

Yep, I was interested in the HS100 however it is too bulky (from what I have read) to fit 2x plugs into a outlet.

  • Are you sure the coffee machine will start making (if that is what you are trying to do) when you switch the power back on remotely/on timer?

Yep, already looked into it. I am only after the machine to turn on, not make anything, as it needs roughly 20min to get to the correct temp (E61 group head)
If I leave the coffee machine ON (Switch on, on the machine) then I can remotely turn on/off from the app.

I'm not sure about non-bulky ones, but you could get smart plugs with two outlets. Arlec and Brilliant Smart both have them.

Xiaomi ones are very slim, the only problem is that they go in upside down so you can't flip it off at the power point easily (which you wouldn't do as you now have a wifi switch)

  • I use the hs100 and they are great, but too bulky to fit next to each other.

Thinking outside the square you could use:
    - a powerboard,
    - or change the the GPO to a wider 4 outlet option.
    - an old fashioned plug in timer, as the on and off time is the same every day.

This is all assuming there isn't another suitable smart plug that you can use.

  • One easy solution is to find the shortest extension cable you can, that way you can fit a bulkier smart plug into the end of the extension and it won't interfere with the power outlet. If possible a 0.5m or 1m extension cord will work. Can't find any stores but can buy online.

  • I use brilliant brand switches, not as bulky and cheap from officeworks. They have a smart board with individually controlled switches.

What good is google home integration, quite useful.

  • The Brilliant double may be a decent option.
I wonder if there would be any issues running a surge protector out of the power outlet, then the smart double adaptor and then the appliance?

  • The maker of the hs100 also do a power strip now
