    Not Sandy Bridge. I'd pass

  • Seems okay, but correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't the 5730m a pretty low end graphics card?.

Anyway doesn't seem like an amazing deal.

    • You really should do your research. This card is capable of 520gflops. It does better than 520/525m (230gflops). Actual gaming performance is 3-11% higher than the nvidia 525M.
      - At this price point, it's also considerably cheaper than 525M laptops ($830+, feel free to find me cheaper ones).

"The HD 5730 belongs to the upper middle range of ATI cards, which gaming tests and benchmarks have already proved. An Nvidia GT 330M is easily overrun by the HD 5730."
      And considerably better than GT330M.
      - 310/315M's are obviously lowered speced and laptops are priced around $480-600.

  • Lenovo Y560 = ideapad right?
Where does the ideapad stack up in terms of build quality with their other line up? I know Lenovo's build quality varies from the different lines.

Price seems alright but I'm not jumping up and down, sandybridge would be nicer but I understand their isn't a huge performance difference.

    • I'd like to know this too.

This is the cheapest I've seen the Y560 and it looks like a competent gaming laptop just over the price range of nvidia 310/315m's and under the price range of nvidia 520/525.

The 2nd gen only offers about a 10% performance boost (cpu only) - the graphics is the same (http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-6570M.41479.0.htm…). It has been as low as $785 after cash card.

ThinkPad E520 is currently $799 on lenovo site

Also a Matte display there. It has been as low as $599 (recently, sold out) and $650 (in May)
Considerably better battery life and noise levels too.

    • the ideapads are the consumer range, they're not as solid as the thinkpads but the quality is still pretty good. I think Lenovo have the best keyboards around, my only gripe with this model is the lid is very thin and feels a bit flimsy.

I have one of these, the speakers are good for a laptop, the graphics score 6.7 on the WEI.

I'm not convinced this is a good deal though. It's a superceeded model and laptop prices seem to be tumbling at the moment for non Sandy bridge lines. You need to claim the cashback within a week and it takes 3 months for them to process.
