COVID19 Centrelink Jobseeker Application Question

Due to the COVID19 crisis, I'm now for the first time claiming for what is known as the government financial support promise to those who are not able to work.
I have not lost my job but am without work until we get back to normal. I am not entitled to the JobKeepers allowance, as I have only worked 11 months,
(12 Months employment to qualify) hence my application. Then we come to questions about my husband. Is he still employed and when is his end date? My husband is still working on a contract which is being reviewed on a monthly basis. He works in a hospital low wage.
There is no other option other than to put in an end date. My husband is still working. I've called Centrelink but had to give up after being on hold for 5 hours.
Because of this i can't finish and submit my application. Does anyone here have any thoughts on this? Many thanks.

  • are you casual or fulltime? as 12 months only applies to casual, but think you would have to be working to get jobkeeper.

anyway if your husband earns < 79k which it would seem, then his work status is irrelevant i believe, you should be able to get the $550 a week now no questions asked.

go into a CL if you can

Centrelink claims are never "no questions asked" and there's no reason to go to Centrelink if you don't need to.

Generally the issues OP mentioned will be identified during the claims process. Which can be completed (I'm told now online) after the intention to claim.

Unclesnake is right about the 12 months only applying to casual but it sounds like OP knew that.

It won't help OP, but I think this is why the Candian Emergency Response Benefit is superior:

      https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/ei/cerb-applicati…

If Australia could offer a 16-week payment that disqualifies you from other payments for 20 weeks pegged at 80% of JobSeeker but with reduced application and citizenship requirements a lot of people would jump at that.

There are so many people who are going to lose their jobs but are ineligible for either JobKeeper or JobSeeker. This is because:

      1. JobKeeper excludes casuals who have been working for less than 12 months or whose employer has not lost sufficient revenue.
      2. JobSeeker excludes many individuals based on status and considers income beyond employment income including a) rental income, b) partner's income and c) financial income.

While there's a good case for including that income in JobSeeker many of those unconventional sources of income will become precarious in a crisis such as this and I guarantee JobSeeker won't account for that.

well my centerlink had a queue 20 mins long, better than 5 hours on hold, thats why i suggest go in there

        • +1

          Did they ask questions?

          • +2

@markathome: Yes, the queue is small because everyone now calls up, sit there all day on hold.

Why not go to Centrelink and call up whilst in the line, which ever gets to you first wins

Just tell us the basic facts instead of all that nonsense, then we can try and help you.
I’ve got no idea what you are on about

You need to get a CRN.

Stay on the phone until you get one. Have your IDs handy.
Put your phone on speakerphone and do other things around the house.

Apply for job keeper (if not casual under 12 months), As uncle said.

    Apply for Newstart.

PS. Don’t tell this story to the Centrelink person they have enough to do. And other people are waiting on the phone. Just apply.

As your husband contract is a monthly basis put the date as the end of this month contract. You can sort out the rest later. Is his income below threshold of partners income

If he's on month to month, put the end of April

  • Thank you all.
