Suggestion for Economic Lens for Canon to Record Yoga Class/Vlog/Youtube recipe

Hi Ozbargainers,

there are few camera experts here. Would be great if you can suggest a economic lens (maybe even Sigma) for Canon 70D. Basically i am recording Yoga class for dad. so i guess something with bit of wide angle. Hopefully can also use it for general purpose as well.

  • what are the lenses you currently have?

    • the one it came with and also a 50mm portrait. portrait doesn't work as its essentially zoomed in

      • +1

Actually, as you have a APS-C camera, you need to multiply the focal length of a lens by crop factor to get effective 35mm equivalent focal length
        so, 50mm * 1.6 = 80mm effective

If you can lend a lens from somewhere, try 35mm which will be 56mm effective.I used to have a Nikon AF-S 35mm/f1.8 with a D5200,one of the best lens I have ever had. Similar one for Canon would be: https://kenrockwell.com/canon/lenses/35mm-f2.htm

I think below one is the cheapest and widest EF-S lens (you can buy a used one for a cheaper price) but it may be too wide for your purpose I suppose.

What is the lens it came with? 18-55 ?

        • Actually i had a look. i do have Sigma 15-255mm. But it doesn't look like wide angle when you use it

  • I'd try to use the stock 18-55mm lens it came with but if it isn't wide enough I'd suggest the Tokina 11-16mm or the Sigma 10-20mm. They're both cheaper than the Canon 10-22mm wide angle. Unfortunately wider lenses are a lot more specialty and are higher in price. You might be able to find a good deal 2nd hand as they've been around for years.

    • Thanks. I looked around and that 10-20mm looks good. I do have Sigma 18-255m. Would that essentially be good enough in that case?
