Question about Mini DisplayPort to HDMI for 4K/60hz

Hi all. I have a NUC6i5SYH that I’m looking to connect to my Sony TV and am trying to get full 4K output. My understanding is the only way to do this is via the mini displayport output into HDMI2.0.

Would this cable do the job? Any other suggestions? Passive vs active etc? Will this also carry audio?

  • Why can't you use the hdmi port?

    Will this also carry audio?

    Says so in the link

    • +1

4K 60hz can only be achieved through the mini display port.

    • HDMI will only be 30Hz and it's definitely noticeable.

      • Noticeable for games but not movies right?

        • You do see it but it's more obvious for mouse movement etc.

  • 4K@60Hz uses 12.54Gbit/s, outside of that adapter's specs.

  • I learned this the hard way- wasted time on several dongles.

From my experience, despite what descriptions say, I could not get 60hz @ 1440p (let alone 4k) out of any adapters that went from HDMI /to USB-C.

    All look terrible at 30hz.

Only one that worked was a direct USB-C to mini-display port.

I can dig up if you'd like
