Budget Gaming Monitor Recommendations - Budget $500

Hi, I am on the look out for a budget gaming monitor for my teen, he plays GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption.
It has an AMD Readon RX500 graphics card, am unsure of other computer specifications and I don't know too much about what to look for in a gaming monitor.

I have come across this deal, but I'm not sure if it is good or not?

Any other recommendations would be great, thank you.

  • What's in your pc and what do you wanna play. You will need to have 240+ fps for 240mhz.

    • Sorry I'm not sure what the specs are, its for my teen. He wants to play games like GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2

For those games that monitor is waste of money - Just go for a 24/27" IPS - High refresh rate optional..
To utilise a 240 hz monitor to its potential you need a high spec computer, and it's mostly used for competitive FPS games (which are not GTA5 or RDR2).

    • I've been told it has an AMD Readon RX500 graphics card.

What graphics card do you have?

Best monitor for about $500 would be Acer KG271UA
    27"
    1440p
    144hz
    Freesync
    Unofficial G-Sync compatible.

If your graphics card is below a GTX1070/2070 then you'd be better off going a 1080p model and spending less.

As a blind recommendation with that limited information, I would look at this Viewsonic - basically same features as the Acer zeggie recommended, but an IPS panel.

Could be had closer to $400 in previous specials, but might not be doable at the moment.

    • Yep I was going to recommend the same monitor. Never used it, but seems to hit the price bracket for a lot of features.

    • I have this one, pretty happy with it. I went from a Dell IPS 22". for 27/1440p/144hz/IPS it seems to be in competition with 700 dollar monitors.

    • I have that monitor and have been disappointed as a stuck pixel appeared after only two months of owning.
ViewSonic refused repair as it was outside their 30 DOA warranty. I might have just gotten unlucky but It's the last Viewsonic I'll buy and do not recommend

  • I've just bought a Samsung CJG54 off ebay for about $420, 27" 1440p and 144hz refresh rate, i thought that was a pretty decent price for mid range monitor specs.

Much cheaper if you want to get a 24" 144hz 1080p monitors out there for ~$300 mark.
