Cool story, is that For 1lt?

  • +3 votes

That's a good price. Good for a daily. Just don't touch Red - that stuff is horrid

    • +1 vote

Red is perfectly fine for a cheaper scotch / mixer with coke or dry

      •

Just finished a red mix with coke. It was given to me / has been on the shelf for a VERY long time… but it was fine? lol

    •

Johnnie Red got Winston Churchill thru WWII .. unscathed! ;-)

  •

Is there a historical price tracker for booze like isthereanydeal for PC games? I feel the need to splurge on something nice but I am not sure JW Black is really where I am wanting to go.

    • +5 votes

      http://www.boozle.com.au/

However the excise tax is $34.35 on a 1L, 40% bottle and GST is $4.09 on a $45 bottle, so about $7.65 of this is actually making this, bottling it, shipping it over from Scotland and profit for the store/producer. So it's not ever going to get much cheaper without a change to the tax system.

However this isn't "something nice" this is "something cheap and tolerable when mixed with coke".

      • +1 vote

Yeah, this was definitely in the realm of "do I buy this and get some coke", not "I really appreciate a fine JW Black and a few drops of water would allow me to stare forlornly into the fire".

My boss and her husband are both Scottish and have recommended Highland Park or Glenkinchie so time to do a bit of research so I can do the latter with something much nicer.

If you're after a great smooth scotch, the Chivas 18 for $80.10 after the coupon is a great price. Yes it's a blend and it's probably not the cheapest it's ever been but it's rather delicious and great for that price range.

I'm definitely not one to pick on the "do I buy this and get some coke", I've been smashing down wild turkey and coke like there's no tomorrow lately. Because at this point, maybe there won't be.

  •

Doesnt allow you to go to checkout. Any idea why please ? Thx

  •

    $45 with coupon code SAVE10 (C&C)

    • +5 votes

Is it a different SAVE10 code than the one OP has posted?

      • +1 vote

If you keep entering SAVE10, eventually the price will go negative and they have to pay you.

      •

Posted this comment before the OP had updated it mate ;)

        •

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure I didn't update the title, discount code or price ;)

          • +1 vote

@MrFizz: When you first posted your title was $50 and didn't have the shop. It was updated by admin moocher ;) All sorted now.

  •

    Thanks good price

  •

thanks op!!! - just ordered a couple click and collect - dunno what the deal with shopback is - says "up to 3%" on liquor - so i went thru them - we'll see

    •

I am not sure it's just me or every body else, i have shopped so many time through cashback and shop back and eligible purchase but i haven't seen any credit back in my account. Does anyone know what could be reason?

      • +1 vote

ive only used shopback and they have been pretty good with tracking my purchases - as long as i first log in to their site and then navigate to first choice liquor (for example) from the link on the shopback site

  •

    Thanks OP. Ordered a couple..

  •

Picked up two bottles of Ardbeg 10 year old single malt for $160.20 with 3% cashback and free delivery.

    •

Any feedback on the Ardberg comparing against Walker?
      Thanks

      • -1 vote

Personal taste, I'd go for the peaty Ardbeg any day over JWB.

        • -1 vote

I have a bottle of Ardberg and it's seriously like drinking burnt firewood. Way too strong on the peat for my liking..

          •

@Maz78: Is Johnnie black very peaty? I don't like the peat taste at all. Prefer a smoother whisky. My favourite is gentleman jack as a mixer and stock up when it's a good price. Although I know that isn't the same thing as a scotch lol

            • +1 vote

@harthagan: Black Label does have some peatiness to it.
If you're not a fan of that and you're fond of American Whiskey, and would like to delve into scotch, I'd recommend you go for a Speyside whiskey to start with. Something entry level but still good would be Monkey Shoulder.

            • +2 votes

@harthagan: Johnnie Black has nothing on Ardberg. You'll be fine with Johnnie Black.
People get quite wanky with their scotch… But Ardberg is next level. It smells like a campfire when you open it, and tastes like one too. LOL

              • +1 vote

@Maz78: I had a bottle of lagavulin or something and it was def too peaty for my liking. Was barely drinkable, so I'm guessing peat is not suitable for my sensitive palate lol!

                •

@harthagan: I'm with you mate. There are plenty of excellent single and blended whiskies out there. Just try them out. :)
I'm a fan of the Glenmorangie Single Malt 10 year -> Not overly expensive either and worth a try.

                  •

@Maz78: Thanks everyone, i should have mentioned it i have only starting to drink scotch/whisky and from above reviews i think Ardberg is too early for me to start, so i rang the first choice and asked them swap it for Glenmorangie.

Start with JWB & the Glenmorangie and see where would this take me!

  •

I am only starting to stock up on whisky ( to be honest if i buy the above deal it would be first time purchase)My question is once i open the bottle do i need to finish in 2-3 day like wine? Does the storage temperature matters say in summer when it reaches 38+ is it OK in a pantry shelf?

    • +2 votes

Absolutely fine to store and consume when needed. Better to be in a cool dry place.

    • +1 vote

definitely consume within 3 days. Stock up!

      •

at least my gut will be bacteria free for 3 day!

        •

  • -1 vote

Anyone know if we can purchase more than 2 bottles in a new cart?

  •

Anyone else think they bungled the price? I've never seen it this cheap before. Same price as the red label 1l which is also heavily discounted.

    • +1 vote

Price is legit I spoke to Ashfield store over the phone

      •

Nice. Just hope they've plenty of stock, probably will have to pick up on weekend.

        • +1 vote

Apparently there is a limit on the number of bottles you can walk out of the store with daily. Store rep told me I'd need to pick up my 12 bottles over a 6 day period. I need a total of 45 bottles for my wedding next year.

          •

@Harby7: Wow can't u just get friends/family to pick up some as well. The limits apply per person?

            •

@harthagan: I put my name on all 6 orders lol I will work something out

          •

            @Harby7: I picked up 2 c&c and my 2 daily in person

  •

After doing a long Johnnie walk, I find green is now the lowest I can go but I do switch to back after a few because it starts tasting the same.
How people can drink red I have no idea.

Pretty sure when I get to hell, the bar will only have Bundaberg and Johnnie red, a band playing sex on fire all the TV's stuck on women's golf (no slight on women's golf, just the worst experience ever involved it)

    • -3 votes

all the TV's stuck on women's golf

      AFLW would be worse.

  •

They just closed the price error while I was browsing there. :(

    • +1 vote

It's still showing up for me?

    •

      still showing now, just purchased.

  •

I got my confirmation to pick up from the store so hopefully they don't back out.

  •

    First Choice = Liquorland

    mind blown

  •

Just ordered. Never really been a fan but at that price.

  •

I notice if you use the link it is there but if you search for it it doesnt come up.

  •

Looks like its gone. Link doesn't work and can't find on the website.

    • +1 vote

I don't understand. The link is still working fine for me and I can add to my cart.

      •

It doesn't work for me. It's only red at that price now.

Hi I collected the bottle today and I got an email from paypal saying “ LIQUORLAND (AUSTRALIA) PTY. LTD. issued a $45.00 AUD refund”

Did anyone else also get this email?

Note: I did get the collection message and I collected promptly.

  •

And did you also get a refund? I am still hoping to get collection message.

  •

Waited for 2 days, called up Kellyville store now, the staff said they don't have any stock and probably i will get a refund!
Need to go buy something else for the evening then :-(

    •

My order got cancelled as well and I had ordered around 2.30pm

  •

Was told in-store that it won’t be honoured and that I should contact customer service if I wanted to take it higher - guess I’ll give that a go.

    •

was that after you got a pickup notification SMS? so they wasted your time and petrol?

  • +1 vote

If they aren't going to honour then they should return the money as quickly as they took it.

  • +3 votes

Didn't receive SMS so I contacted customer service and they told me it was under investigation due to a pricing error on the Johnny Black. They mentioned something about it being honered but didn't quite catch it. Decided to wait for the outcome of the investigation…fingers crossed.

  •

Yeah doubt it is out of stock. They just don't want to honour the price. I notice it's still available to purchase online for the price of $65

  •

Last I heard mine is supposed to be delivered Wednesday.

  •

I had 6 orders refunded and was told that they would honour 1 of my orders. Just got the message to pick up from Ashfield.

    • +1 vote

lol the timing, just got another text message saying the price was incorrect and as a gesture of goodwill they will honour 1 bottle only. luckily i scored 25 bottles at Dan Murphy with price beat

      •

        HAHAH 25 Bottles !

      •

        Only 25?

      • +1 vote

Lol I got them for my wedding next year

    •

Knew it had to be a price error.
As much as I hoped it wasnt!

Still hadn't received any contact about my order so I called them. They told me my order was cancelled the same day and refund issued Monday. Paid with Paypal haven't seen the refund yet. Very annoyed about the lack of communication.

    • +1 vote

Terrible company to deal with in my (experience)

  • +1 vote

Finally got my refund today. Next question how do I delete my account I won't deal with these guys again.

    •

Wow took them so long. Their management is very poor.

I collected my 3 bottles (2 from one account and one from a different account)
2 hours later they emailed me saying they are refunding me for one bottle. ( I did get my refund back :) )

Basically i got 3 bottles for the price of 2.

  •

I received mine. Purchases some brandy and wine they had on special and got the free delivery. Took a lot longer than it should have. However with the discount it was worth it. Pity is JW black is not much better than red. But for the price.
