Best Tasting & Best Value Instant Decaf

After years of coffee drinking, my body has told me that I can no longer handle coffee. With great detriment, I need to start doing decaf. Being a true Oz bargainer, I'm looking for the best tasting instant decaf that I can buy from the local supermarket. I don't use a coffee machine - I just want a quick instant coffee that's great value.

I normally drink Nescafe Gold, but can also do Nescafe Blend 43.

Has anyone tried Aldi one? Would prefer if I could but it at the same low price all year round.

My usual preference is the Moccona Decaf (the blue one). Tastes like warm Weet-Bix which is quite palatable.

Still irks me that it costs something like $120/kg though!!

      Yuck!

      • Well yes, but on the decaf scale of taste it's a "9/10; would recommend"

  • If its not international roast it doesnt get into the room.

  • None

  • oxymoron title

    • I used to work in a cafe and whenever ppl order a decaf, I used to smirk in my mind. Now I have no choice and I feel for them!

      • Did you ever serve normal coffe to them instead of decaf?

        • Believe me when you are off Caffiene for a while, you can tell. I went to my local and ordered a coffee (decaf) the evening before an important meeting. That night I couldn’t sleep, which isn’t usual as I never had problems sleeping, even before business meetings.

After the meeting I confronted my Barista, who apologised profusely telling me she already knew, as another staff member thought it would be “ funny” to put Regular Coffee in the jar, rather than go to the store room for the decaf. (Another user already complained as well).

It’s worked out well, I get great service and we are good friends.

Let’s hope you were asking the question for the right reasons, Caffeine is a drug(and pesticide) and while in my case it does what it’s supposed to do, keep me awake, for some it can be worse than that.

For real? What age bracket are you in and what have you done to your body? How many cups per day, previously?

    been drinking decaf for years.

In response to the above comments.

It’s for the taste of it!

Instant of course isn’t the best coffee taste decaf or not.

If you want a reasonable tasting decaf, ALDI is fine. Nestle decaf rarely comes on sale, usually when some new brand enters the market, that seems to be a strategy to kill the new brand.

If you want a really great decaf ground bean coffee, look for Bonta. Hard to find but google it there are some online places.

Also previous discussion was here as well

    • I just bought the Aldi decaf instant coffee and believe it or not - it actually tasted OK. I'm not sure if it's because I haven't had coffee in like a week though LOL!

The Nescafe Gold Decaf is OK but there really isn't a very decent decaf instant variety. I use a Dolce Gusto but can't get the Decaf Pods from the UK atm so would be interested to know what you find.

… that it is a coffee snob and will only accept barista-made coffee. So now I'm feeding it tea and we're both happier for it.
