Newest Kia Rio GT Line - Any Good?

Hi guys I'm after a small car and hatchback since it's just me.

I am planning on buying a new car and been saving for nearly two years now and looking at Kia Rio GT line 2020 or 2019 is there a difference between them because I can't seem to find any?

Is the auto good in them? Or should I go for another car?

Also how is the best to pay with outright? I know bank has fees and stuff to keep in mind. I'm with CUA.

Suggest Toyota small cars more reliable and quality.

    • +1

But they cost 10k more with less stuff?

      • Where do you get $10k from? A base Yaris starts at $20k, the higher ZR starts at $26k.
        Rio GT starts at $24k

    If you can PAY OUTRIGHT.

    • Yes

You need a reliable car and save $ for maintenance or more stuff. Your choice.

    • Are rios not reliable?

      You have no idea.

still living in 2005. the world has changed so so much since u last checked. there is even a pandemic now!

While Toyota seems to be the brand of choice here, I think Kia with its 7 year warranty should be fine. Also note that

    • I drive a 10yo Kia Rondo with 110k, and the only major issue I had was leaking coolant last year.
    • When I visit my family in Qld I often just rented a cheap 12-13yo Kia Rio manual, and being a rental car that thing has pretty high mileage.
    • Most my local GoGet cars have switched from Toyota Corola/Yaris to Kia Cerato/Picanto.

Sorry OP for not answering your questions, but I would definitely consider Kia again once I need to replace my Rondo.

    • How's the Picanto to drive?
After being in Japan for a bit surrounded by awesome looking tiny cars, the Picanto looks great to me. Wish there were more super tiny cars around (bring back Daihatsu!)

      • I've never driven one. My first car was a Charade G200 which was a fun little car, and Picanto is even tinier. Yup I love small/tiny cars but having a family these are just not realistic.

      • Yep, how cool is the Honda N-Box! Love how it's just a Box and proud of it!

Nah… It's all about French and German cars now. Don't listen to those crank yanking forum mechanics that don't know nuffink, French cars are awesome now. Did you know that the 308 won CoTY… from where, I don't know, but it won… in 2014… And may I remind people… JD POWAH!!!!

Just waiting for the family trust fund splurging, Tesla driving teacher to weigh in on why the BWM X5 is the only option OP should consider… because 150kw "isnt fun"…

        • LOL, seems to be pattern with the high yield investment cars supposed owners,

Q; best car for budget $12K for family and must have over 150kw
A; BMW Z3 with AC schnitzel tower brace

I'm really surprised, arguments about nurburgring and Top gear lap time haven't come into these arguments yet because that matters when it comes to a daily driver.

@pegaxs: PMSL, cheers for the link

So from "So we are in the market for a big 7 seater family car" to ring times on first page. Thats the level of internet automotive experts, says it all really and I wouldn't have it any other way, quality lolz

Ontopic: Love the GT line and GT trim levels on the Kia cars, really make these cars better with really nice touches. Worth the extra coin if the budget can stretch that far.

              • @Bid Sniper: I gotta say, I do like the GT and GT-Line of vehicles from Kia. And I am 100% going to get myself into a Picanto GT, but only as a fun/laugh car once the prices have dropped a bit more on them.

Although, it is under 150killawasps… I might just go for a Tesla Model S Super Ludicrous…

                • @pegaxs: Does look like just a fun cheap little buzz box with 72kw of 1L fury, with a manual be fun revving its little balls in traffic.

Love the Cerato GT wagon, just a really nice modern car inside and out. Last year I laughed at Kia ownership but after owning one really changed my views of cars and car brands.

I've had my Kia for 3 1/2 years, 70,000+km on the clock and I haven't had a thing go wrong with it.

They are cheap to buy as well as to run, and a 7 year warranty from Kia says it all when talking about reliability.

Already thinking about updating to my next Kia as soon as the current crisis is over.

    • Why wait? Car dealerships are really struggling at the moment? You can still visit and take a car for a test Drive. I’m sure they will be keen to do a deal

      • I thought thats against law right now?

I have a 2014 Kia proceed GT, similar platform. Been an amazing car, love it.

Kia auto supposed to be good. New Certo GT dual clutch is on the best in the segment. Not sure about difference between 2019 and 2020 on the Rio, I just know cerato isnt much different. Ask and have a look at both.

Outright on 19 model, now dealers are bleeding so can get a good price.

Kia is kicking goals at the moment.

Keep in mind that Hyundai is their parent company, so they often benefit from having the same engine, transmission, software, etc

I own a Cerato GT and couldn’t be happier. A great car in its own right, let alone considering the cost vs similar alternatives.

The reason I purchased it was because my sister has a Cerato Sport+, and my partner has a base model Picanto, and have had great experiences with their cars, too. Warranty and fixed price servicing tops it off for ease of ownership and peace of mind.

I don’t proclaim to be a car expert, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Kia’s reputation takes a positive turn, much like how Toyota started with a poor reputation but earned a positive one through pumping out solid cars at a good price (before starting to charge the “brand tax”, of late, it seems!)

    • Looking at buying the 2020 Cerato Sport+ with the safety pack. The GT is a little more than my pocket can handle.

Hoping to see some good deals in the near future.

    • They're what Japanese cars were in the 70s/80s. Hungry for market share and really pushing innovation, quality and value for money. Not BMW "innovations", stuff that actually useful for the everyday driver and focus on quality. My Kia has a digital cluster, was made in 2014, 5 years before Benz and rest of euros had digital clusters. Not a single rattle or squeak either.

      Brand tax, yeah thats Toyota.

Ps speaking of dealers, yeah positive experiences, I bring my own truck oil, regular service $120?!!

Never go for finance with the dealer! Always try as hard as you can to buy outright.

When you go to sell a top of the range, relatively cheap car (second-hand Kia buyers will be comparing your car to other lower-spec models that will devalue yours) you will lose a fair amount. Instead of going for the top of the range Rio, what about lower-spec cerato?

  • Kia is great. I have a 2017 Cerato as our second car and it doesn't miss a beat. It's better to drive than my mum's 2013 BMW 3.

I would worry about the Rio's 4 gears, but not sure what you get in the GT off the top of my head.. potentially a 5 speed turbo?

I like the look of the baby SUV they have now, called Seltos.

Also, 7 year warranty.. permission to buy.

  • Purchased Kia Rio GT June 2019 VIC, great car very happy. Brought outright.
Lots of safety features, fabulous to drive, for the price can't go wrong in my opinion.
Previous car was a Kia Cerato 2003.

Why don't you pop down to the dealer and grab two brochures.

Ask the guys themselves… they would know exactly.

    Why haven't you done this?

    • There's this little virus going around at the moment…

  • +1

    pop down to the dealer

Normally I'd have done this by now but I'm not prepared to drive almost 150 km to the dealership and risk having to donate $1600 or so to the state's depleted coffers if the police decide it's not currently an essential trip.

That's a lot of accessories that I'd no longer be able to afford.
