Best Bulk Buy Budget Tablet with Sim for Video Calls

Hey there everyone
I have a quick question on best budget buys for no frills tablet.
I am currently working in home based aged care, due to current circumstances isolation is being compounded in elderly especially ones that don't have internet access. No it wont save the planet but can help a few people feel less isolated. We have many people that do not have access to devices or tablets and am looking into providing some on loan with a quick tutorial. We are council based so not looking to profit but don't have a massive budget to buy devices. Its in a regional area but most of our area has mobile coverage.
So tablet just needs to be user friendly and compatible with local mobile network. At this stage would probably just be after 10 to see how it goes as a trial.
Australian warranty is preferable but not a deal breaker.
Also what would be the best sim data only plans at the moment for such a service I have seen the Optus $130 for 80 GB 12 month expiry but am sceptical on non telstra coverage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers

We went with Samsung Tab A with just a telstra post paid sim.

Has definitely helped, you might also want to consider a combo of wifi tablet and a phone which can either be used as a hotspot or for them to make calls.

We were initially going to offer only video but quickly realised that a large proportion just wanted voice calls.

If you're local council administers, talk directly to the IT admin? Or anyone that administers phones & mobiles. They should have access to business plans (Telstra and/or Optus) and bulk suppliers of IT equipment and should be able to find & setup everything for better value than any retail plans.

Better yet, if you haven't got wifi installed then put that to them as well; that will reduce initial device costs as well as then negate needing any SIM cards.

I'd reckon you should be able to get everything done under $7000 for 10x iPads, Wifi access points and router; then your only ongoing cost will be internet access (if you don't already have it) for $80 a month instead of 10x SIM plans.

EDIT: You/your council should be registered as a non-profit - which means there are more options available for hardware as well. I found some refurbished iPads for almost half the price from one of my NFP suppliers which would be even better value for you!

  • Thanks guys ill ask them and see what options they comed up with. We wont be able to do wifi as it is CHSP as in thier home not a "home". Was thinking of a rotating roster to share the 10 devices in home for a week or 2.
