What Happens if You Miss a Fixed Price Service?

Ok I admit, I stuffed up. I've been busy lately with financial drama + covid issues etc. that I completely forgot to book my car in for a service (even with a sticker in the windshield!) so I doubt I can get it serviced before the due date (Tuesday). My car is a '18 impreza, the scheduled service cost is $600 (! wtf). I think I have a recall needing to be done too. I've only done 9,000km since the service last year I think.

If I miss it do I pay more than $600? Or do I miss out on the recall? Is it better to get it serviced at the stealership or take it somewhere else?

arrrrrrghhhh :( money is quite tight right now. Why are subarus so expensive to service? Toyota only charges like $120/year.

edit: DOES IT VOID MY WARRANTY??? F**K!

I regularly got my new car late on the fixed price service; not a dilemma unless you are like 6 months late I think.
Just call in and book for the next most convenient time.

  • Why are subarus so expensive to service?

Your pre purchase research would have identified this.

If I miss it do I pay more than $600?

No, but depending on how overdue it may make future warranty claims difficult.

    • For some reason at the time I didn't really think much about servicing haha, I know not the ozb way

      • Or do I miss out on the recall?

No. This is a free service that is generally available for many years.

    • just curious why are subaru expensive to service?

  • DOES IT VOID MY WARRANTY??? F**K!

How overdue are you time wise?

    • The due date is Tuesday.

      • Then you haven't missed it at all then. What is your question again?

        • I don't think I can get an appointment BEFORE then so I'm wondering what happens if I'm late ??

          • @Levathian: Pretty sure you can be a month late and you will be fine. Don't stress. You are all good my friend.

even with a sticker in the windshield!

Do you get a reminder on your cluster?

            • @Muzeeb: I got a phone call from them to book in a time a month ago and it skipped my mind to get it booked lol

@Levathian: Call Monday (or book online if you can).

                You will be all sweet.

  • What do you mean by the due date? And how many kms over are you?

  • +3

    You're not overdue
Just give them a call. A few days or even a few weeks is fine, not guno be a problem

U dont need to follow the service dates to the exact day or km, everyone is busy. Just give them a call and book it when it's convenient

  • I have never serviced based on date. Always KMs. If you have only done 9000 since last service I wouldn't be worried at all. BTW you are NOT required to service at Subaru in order to keep your warranty (unless it is a dealer warranty not a factory warranty).

You must have had older cars. If it's under warranty and CPS, and you want to keep those, then you need to service as per requirements.

  • Does not need to be serviced on a precise servicing day, just done within a similar timeframe. I suggest you continue to do this to avoid any warranty issues of non compliance of servicing to your vehicle.

Your car will burst into a ball a flame causing widespread erectile dysfunction.

    Or you know, nothing.

These negative votes… seems like people have also locked down their sense of humor!

        widespread erectile dysfunction.

The negs are from people in NSW where OP is, while the upvotes are from those of us who are well outside the ED blast zone.

But seriously guys. ED is no small matter. It is hard on some people and we should really raise awareness. If you knew how badly it affects some, you'd stand to attention too.

@[Deactivated]: From what I've heard, it's really not that hard. They are just a soft bunch of guys.

There's a 3 month window either side for the claim.

    You're fine.

    • Is that just for Subarus? or all cars?

      • +2

For Toyotas, but afaik it's standard among everyone else.

        • i got no idea about new cars, but do all new cars have this as part of keeping your warranty? Needing to service with them for x years, every 6 months?

          • +4

            @cloudy: Yep

Put it this way, if you didn't service a new Kia for 6 years, do you think you could claim a warranty repair on something engine related?

I'm not saying that servicing has to be done at the dealer, but it has to be done as per logbook. Whether that's 6/9/12 months depends on the brand/vehicle/engine.

I've seen manufacturers do warranty repairs after warranty expired because the car had a full dealership service history. I've seen and read enough stories about people trying to fight for ACL, and they don't get far if they haven't maintained the vehicle.

Call your friendly Suby dealer and say you are in hospital and your dog doesn't drive. How long do you have etc. You could always read the Ts & Cs in the service manual or check the Suby web site. Several years back I had to defer a Mitsu service and the time allowed was 90 days.
