  • Do you need a new car to do the 4 items that you are allowed to do? If that is the case then yes. Otherwise no.

  • If your current car broke down and you need a new one to do the 4 items you are allowed to do then yes it is an essential trip.

    why are dealerships still open?

Dealerships are still open because people still need to get servicing and road worthy checks done on vehicles and other people need to replace broken/worn out/crashed vehicles.

Are you shopping for a new vehicle for the sake of shopping or shopping to replace a damaged/broken vehicle?

what state are you in? (geographical, not physical).

In NSW, it's fine. It's buying personal needs for the household.

In Vic they're probably already writing up the fine.

    • VIC.. =/

For Victoria, it's fine to travel to a retail facility that is not prohibited from operating by the Restricted Activities Direction (No 2).
Part 3 of the Stay at Home Directions (No 3) - (6)(1)(c)(viii)

A car dealership is not prohibited from operating.

It is the same rule that forced the withdrawal of the $1652 fine that was issued to the guy at the self service carwash.
