Budget Gaming Headphones

Hi all,

I'm looking to get some budget headphones to use when gaming.

I've looked at a few and was hoping those of you with more experience in this field may be able to comment.

Seems like the following are the most popular in the sub $80 price point:

Hyperx Cloud Stinger
Hyperx Cloud Stinger Core
Astro A10
Turtle Beach Recon 70
Corsair HS50 Pro

I'd say comfort and sound are the priorities over mic quality.

On a side note, does anyone have any actual experience in comparing the Stinger and the Core?

Thank so much for reading and any posts.

  • I've got the Cloud Stinger - They do the job for the price when you can get them on sale for around $50 - You probably wont get the comfort and sound quality at this price point. But for some recreational gaming they are perfect.

  • Okay, I was in the same boat about this a few months ago and was looking at the Stingers.

If you can, try and wait for these to come on special again:

They are the exact same as the Cloud 2s, just with a sony badge. I was able to get them for $80 a few months ago.

  • Thanks all!

  • Stretch that to $99 and get the Cooler Maste MH751 for $99 on amazon.

    Go and check out reviews.

  • I have Cloud Cores (not stinger) and they are fantastic. Can't compare to the stinger or any others unfortunately but they were very durable and quite comfortable in longer play sessions. I did find they were on the heavy side but primarily due to the solid construction.
Sound wise, I frequently heard far more noises (footsteps, distant gunshots, etc) than my other mates with their various headsets - even the guy with Astros…. They're now a few years old and have lasted extremely well with the leather and mic especially still being in top nick!

Therefore - I'd hope the other HyperX headsets were of a similar quality and would happily recommend the brand

  • Just a general observation, you should try out open-headphones vs closed-headphones.

The first time using closed headphones, I could barely hear myself talk because the ear cups covered the ear and were sealed well.

Open headphones are apparently better for hearing yourself.

It takes a while but I’ve gotten sort of used to wearing closed headphones, need to sometimes turn on mic monitoring in sound settings to get sound feedback and hear myself though.

  • Just reading up on these post as I am looking for a set of budget gaming headphones

    Should I also consider
    - Corsair HR35
    - Razer Kraken X
    - Kmart Virtual 7.1 (Only cuz it’s $45 with 7.1 SS)

I missed out on the $50 HP Omen @ click frenzy :(
