13.3" i5 Laptop with Blu-Ray & USB3

Hi,

I'm in the market for a new laptop, and i have some difficult requirements, or so it seems when i look around.

Requirements:

Screen size: 12-14" (13.3" preferred)
Optical: Bluray player
USB: 3.0
Processor: Core i5 (or i7 maybe)
Graphics: Dedicated 512mb minimum
Screen type: LED
Video out: HDMI (plus VGA also preferred)
Connectivity: Wifi-N, Bluetooth, SD card slot.
HDD: don't care
Webcam: preferred.
Price: <$1000

This one fits all my needs, except for the USB 3.0.
Asus $859

And this one fits all my needs, except for the Bluray:
HP $699

Also, another question i have is, do laptops still have Express Card Slot's? Because i would love to still be able to use my AverMedia Digital TV Tuner, which unlike USB TV Tuner's, doesn't stick out from the laptop AT ALL!
It would be great if it had this.

Comments

  • you could buy an external USB3 blu ray player… 59 bux from MSY (no external power required)

  • Yeah i might do that actually, then i can get the HP for only $699.
If i can't find anything else.
The specs on the HP are really good.

  • I bought a laptop today!

I found this model at Wow Sight & Sound. It's the Samsung QX412-S01AU.

It's very similar to the above mentioned Samsung, except it has a 1gb graphics card, it's a fair bit thinner, it's a 14" screen yet it has the same footprint, it's got better build quality, with aluminium construction.
The RRP at the moment is $1099, it used to be $1399 a few months ago.
Most places i looked online were selling it for $1000-$1100.
Wow had it for $899, last one. It was the display model (in mint condition), and i haggled them down to $810.
Very happy. Doing a system restore now.
    It's a really swish looking laptop. :)

No Bluray. Couldn't see a USB 3.0 external bluray on MSY, only USB 2.0.

    • Very nice machine. Great price! Had it for ~1400 at JB earlier in the year!

      • Yeah cheers :)

  • Asus U31SD is probably your best bet, ultraportable but no dvd/bluray drive.

    • Yeah, an optical drive is a requirement for me. Plus, i'm sure you've read that i've already bought one.
      Thanks anyway ;)

      • i think he was being a little ambiguous ;)
