Help with Fruit Fly in Veggie Patch

I have capsicum, tomato suffering from fruit fly. Holes in tomatoes and capsicums.

Pumpkin, shallot not affected at all.

Can you please give ideas about how to get rid of fruit fly cost-effectively?

  • Either an ECO Fruit Fly trap or Yates have chemical spray products available.

    Good read here https://www.abc.net.au/gardening/factsheets/fighting-fruit-f…

    1. Bottle traps. These work best without chemically dousing your plants. Too late in the year for it to be effective. These need to be out there a couple of weeks before the flies start appearing.

    2. Sticky pads. Not very effective but pretty much your only option before going chemical.

    3. Electric repellents/zappers. It'll take out a lot of moths. Doesn't work well on flies and mozzies.

    4. Chemical repellant. Works a treat if used as per specification but if you're going to do that for a small batch, cheaper and just as good to just buy store bought.

  • Would "Yates Success" do the trick? I found that it keeps my vegies free from bugs.

  • I've used this. doesn't work.

    I've bought some

but not sure what to put inside.

what can I put on it to attract insects?

    • +1

      Apple cider.

It will attract insects and drown them.

      • i found plenty fruit flies in our bottle of white vinegar a couple of nights ago. lemons would attract them as well.
