Has Anyone Used MotorScout? Any Feedback You Can Give?

Hi so im looking to buy a new car very soon but I am shy, cant nego, have trouble speaking sometimes and get nervous lol.
So wondering how is MotorScout? or anyone else use another car broker?

Update: Just got a demo for $21,500 with free extras, used email to haggle myself and the sales staff was very helpful and friendly. Got lucky i think.

  • What sort of car do you have in mind?

    • Kia rio GT line

  • I signed up with them, gave them all my details and trade-in information … and haven't heard a thing from them in 5 months. I notice that my account is still active and it's status is "Pending"

Do your searching, make a few phone calls. Locate a car in the spec an colour that you like. Research prices. Find what you are happy to pay. Find someone you trust, who has no emotional attachment to the purchase and let them do the negotiation for you. Set your limit and let them know, no more than $xx,xxx.

I have bought plenty of cars for friends who are timid/shy/easily talked into things. I am given a price that they are happy with and I go into bat for them. I dont care one way or the other, because I am disconnected from the sale, I'm just there to get the deal done at that price. If they cant do it, I just thank them for their time, leave my details if we were close and walk out.

If the deal gets done, you come on in and sign the paperwork. If it doesn't, then you have not had to face the dealers sales team.

(And remember… Brokers need their cut as well, so you may not get the best deal if the broker wants their slice of your new car pie…)

Just got in there in time!

      • It’s starting to happen so often, it’s almost like he has shills here.

I know he hangs about here or has shills here, because the number of times a topic has been posted here only for him to make a video about it within a day or two is uncanny…

        • Whats the issue with him?
I personally would not use him however his videos are sometimes entertaining lol

But just curious why we do not like him?

My mate bought a car through him, price was lower than he was getting from dealers directly himself so it was a win for him.

          • @jimbobaus: I am yet to meet anyone who has successfully used “his“ service. Everyone I know who has tried has always been palmed off onto some other broker service, this includes myself. The guy is essentially a broker broker from what I gather.

Both times I have tried to use his service, I was pushed onto other brokers and they took a month or more to get back to me with what was essentially RRP + delivery to my door. I got a better deal just walking into a stealership and talking to the first salesman I found.

So, at the end of the day… Cadogan saved me nothing…. not “thousands”.

As for his videos, they have gone from being factual, to the point videos to nothing more than idiotic ramblings and trolling interlaced with soft core pornography, all for the sake of views over facts. I loved watching his earlier videos. It was about the time the trolling “nut bag Friday” and “Cleetus Van Damme” shit showed up that it jumped the shark, content wise.

            • @pegaxs: Agreed, videos now are a bit odd.. good for a laugh though as long as you do not take seriously.

My mates experience with him was really positive, was not palmed off at all. He knew what car he wanted. When he spoke with them he told them the info they came back to him with 3 options and prices. My mate didnt pay any fees directly ( i assume the dealer paid for the lead)

the deal was about 3.5K less than the best deal he was getting at all the dealers he had been too.

As someone who used to work in a dealership, i suspect he just was not being pushy enough even he was haggling himself but he did get a decent deal in the end.

But yeah i like you am able to haggle and as i worked in the game i know how things work so i know the "tactics" dealers use

  • I have used MotorBuys (different company to MotorScout but I assume similar) a couple of times, and have been very happy with the results. I would just recommend you understand how it works before jumping in.

    • Did you have to pay the 50 dollar fee upfront?

      • Yep, $50 fee upfront, which is refunded if you buy a car through them.

        • but what if you dont and they have bad offers? your screwed.

          • @Rukiata: My experience is that they provided much better offers than I was able to get locally (Canberra, where there is not a huge amount of competition). Might be different depending on where you are.

Personally I would much rather pay $50 and use this method than spending a lot of time trying to negotiate the 'best' price with a bunch of different dealers myself.

            • @djkelly69: Sorry, old thread, how did you find buying from interstate using brokers? What about any issues during or right after delivery? The usual one month check-in - do you have to travel to the same dealer or one in Caberra could do it.

I am in Canberra too and the prices here are still crap because of the lack of competetion. I won't be able to go to Sydney a few times that it needs to for searching and buying.

              • @MayankG: It is great! As mentioned above I would happily do it again. Only real gotchas to watch out for is that if you are going to pick it up yourself you will likely need to arrange temporary rego permits for whichever state/s or territories you will be driving through, and then you will need to arrange proper rego once you get back home. Obviously you want to insure it before you drive it off the lot as well.

I have done one from Wagga and one from Melbourne. Both had no issues during/right after delivery so can't offer much insight there.

One month or 3,000km service (and all servicing) can just be booked with your local dealer for that brand in Canberra.

I might note however my experience was from pre-Covid times, so not sure how the lack of stock and discounting on new cars these days may affect such a service's ability to find good deals.
