Porting from Telstra Post Paid to Kogan Pre Paid

Hi,

My plan with Telstra is expired and I am now in month - to - month basic. I am planning to try out Kogan 14.9$/90 days prepaid plan.
But then I notice there is an 8$ fee that I need to pay to Telstra if I want to port my number to another provider.
As an ozbargainer, is there any way to bypass this 8$ thing or it is too complicated during this pandemic time?

Thank you

Not really, there are a couple ways I could think off, but they are all honestly not worth the hassle and hoops to go through to save $8.

THIS. Just treat it as what it is, a Telstra tax and enjoy the new service you ported to.

Port paid you pay the month ahead, so when you port out, you'll normally get a mini credit anyhow, so the fee will get paid by this credit etc.

    • Thank Jimmy. Despite slower and not well coverage as Telstra, but at least Kogan save me 45$ monthly and it is 135$ in saving minus 8$.

  • You can ring Telstra and change to prepaid for a month and then port out with no charge but it really depends on how much time you want to waste doing it. I believe wait times are really long to talk to someone at Telstra at the moment.

    • +1

It is my primary number and Telstra prepaid plan is pretty much triple the price of Kogan atm. So I think I rather spend 8$ and save more. thank Username not found

  • I ported from Telstra post paid to Kogan on last day of my Telstra postpaid. I was charged following fees :

Google Pixel 2 XL 64GB Payment Contract Balance $3.87 †
    Plan Contract Cancellation $1.935

    • Thank you. As I check online, they required an 8$ porting out fee.

      • Yes, it was there in my contract hence i ported on last day without waiting for contract to finish.
