Gaming PC to Play Arma 3

Looking for a desktop PC (but would consider a laptop at the right price) that can play Arma 3 comfortably at 4K with all the bells and whistles at a reasonable refresh rate.

What GPU/CPU combo should I be looking for?

  • If you are looking to play 4k on Ultra at 60fps, you will likely need a 2080 or 2080Ti. If you are happy with 30 FPS, 1080 will do that for you stable.

    GPU wise, 8700 for 30fps. 9700 or 9900 for 60 FPS

      Er no?

The game was released in 2013.

Its recommended video card is GTX 660.

Here is a benchmark for you at 4k ultra with a GTX1080. FPS sits around 30-40

The game was released in 2013.

It's still very much an evolving sandbox world in active development and there's been a plethora of DLC released since.

It absolutely chugs once more than a few players/bots are in the same area and the lead starts raining. Add in mods and custom maps and the recommended requirements get even steeper.

Part of that is to do with poor optimisation of the RV4 engine and part of it is do with the fact that it's a simulator, not a Call of Duty game. There's an incredible amount of physics, ballistics, environmental and AI behavioural data being calculated every single split-second (more so than any other military FPS you can think of including Battlefield, Squad, Insurgency, Red Orchestra, Verdun, etc). Compare it more to games like DCS World.

    • If you are happy with 30 FPS,

You can't play Arma 3 at 30FPS. You're just going to die a lot. An RTX 2070 is a minimum, an RTX 2080 Ti would be ideal.

    1600$

    Ryzen 7 3700X
RTX 2070 Super 8GB (almost certainly Galax Dual Fan)
    Biostar B350 motherboard
    16GB 2666MHz RAM
    240GB 2.5" SSD
    750W power supply
    Leaper Mid case

Can't go wrong with a techfast desktop, good value for what they are.
